Abstract

Waste is an environmental problem that requires serious attention. One effective waste management effort is through waste sorting at the source, namely households. Waste sorting behavior among housewives can be influenced by various characteristics, such as age, education level, occupation, and knowledge. These differences in characteristics have the potential to influence awareness and practice of waste sorting at the household level. Objective: to determine the waste sorting behavior and characteristics of housewives in Srijaya Village, Palembang City in 2026. Methods: This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design. The population comprised all 250 housewives in RT 35 RW 10, Srijaya Village, Palembang City. A sample of 78 respondents was selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire, then analyzed univariately and presented in the form of frequency distributions and percentages. Results: The results of the study showed that most of the respondents were aged ≥30 years (71 people) (91.0%), had an elementary school education level of 23 people (29.5%), and worked as housewives of 60 people (76.9%).
