Digital learning media are increasingly used in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), including in pesantren that maintain strong religious discipline and traditional learning practices. This study examines the effectiveness of digital learning media at Al Barokah Islamic Boarding School, Dharmasraya, and identifies the pedagogical and institutional conditions influencing their use. A descriptive qualitative case-study design was applied through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and document analysis involving pesantren leaders, madrasah administrators, IRE teachers, and student representatives. Data were analyzed through condensation, display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings show that presentation slides, selected videos, digital Qur'an and hadith audio, and interactive quizzes supported students' attention, participation, conceptual understanding, and formative assessment. Their effectiveness depended on teacher mediation, content verification, classroom control, equipment availability, electricity, internet access, and institutional support. Collective use under teacher supervision also helped maintain pesantren discipline. Digital media therefore strengthen IRE learning when they complement, rather than replace, teachers, religious texts, and established learning traditions. Sustainable implementation requires phased infrastructure improvement, continuous teacher training, offline alternatives, and clear ethical guidance for digital content and artificial intelligence.
