This study aims to analyze the dual role of wives as primary breadwinners in the context of husbands’ economic limitations from the perspectives of Islamic law, the Compilation of Islamic Law, and the Marriage Law. This research employs an empirical juridical method with a qualitative approach through normative analysis, observation, and in-depth interviews in Klambir Lima Kebun Village, Hamparan Perak District. The findings indicate that wives’ involvement in earning a livelihood represents a form of adaptation and cooperation (ta’awun) to sustain the family without diminishing the husband’s position as the head of the household. Despite their dual roles, family stability remains relatively maintained, as reflected in minimal conflict, mutual understanding, and adaptive communication between spouses. Economic limitations do not necessarily hinder the realization of a sakinah family, as harmony is primarily shaped by cooperation, emotional support, and shared responsibility. Nevertheless, the dual role of wives may generate physical and psychological burdens. Therefore, flexibility in role distribution and the strengthening of family values are essential for maintaining household balance and resilience.
