Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of myths and their relationship with nature in Papuan folklore. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The research data are in the form of sentence excerpts found in the Kumpulan Cerita Rakyat Papua (Collection of Papuan Folktales), which serves as the primary data source for this study. These data were collected using the reading and note-taking technique. Subsequently, the collected data were analyzed using an interactive analysis technique. The results of the study indicate that Papuan folklore contains a wide variety of myths. These include origin myths, karma myths, demigod myths, myths about the supernatural powers of characters, myths about sacred objects, myths about deities, myths about astral beings, and myths about animals. These myths have a strong relationship with nature. This is because the various forms of myths are closely linked to natural components, such as trees, animals, and natural disasters. The relationship between myths and nature carries a profound meaning about the importance of protecting and preserving the surrounding natural environment.
