This research aims to dissect the image of the police in the novel Membunuh Orang Gila (Killing a Madman) through a literary sociology approach, as well as formulate its implications for learning in high school. The novelty of this research lies in the revelation of an unconventional representation of the police not merely as rigid law enforcers but as humanist figures full of moral and existential dilemmas in Sapardi’s allegorical narrative. The method used is qualitative descriptive with content analysis techniques. The results of the study show two main images of the police: (1) representations of institutions trapped in legal ambiguity, and (2) symbols of humanitarian conscience when faced with social marginalization. These findings can serve as enrichment material for literary criticism texts in Grade 12 of senior high school. Through the context of this humanistic police world, students are not only trained to think critically academically, but also encouraged to develop social empathy toward legal realities in Indonesia.
