Abstract

The current supply of Spotted Barb (Barbodes binotatus) is still obtained from wild catches because the larval production process is still not mastered. One of the obstacles in the artificial hatchery is a large number of unfertilized eggs. This obstacle is probably due to the suboptimal parental ratios. The purpose of this study was to obtain the best male : female ratio that produced the highest reproductive rate of Spotted Barb (Barbodes binotatus). The study was conducted for 14 days at UPT PBAT Umbulan, Pasuruan, East Java. The method used was an experimental method with four treatments and three replications, namely P1 (2 males : 1 female), P2 (3 males : 1 female), P3 (4 males : 1 female), and P4 (5 males : 1 female). The adult fish selected were gonadally mature (at stage 4 gonadal maturity), weighing 5–10 g. These adults were then kept in an aquarium measuring 60 × 30 × 30 cm3 filled with water to a depth of 25 cm until ready to spawn. The results showed that different male ratios had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the degrees of fertilization and hatching. However, they had no significant impact (P > 0.05) on the survival rate (SR) and fecundity. The best treatment in this study was P4 which resulted in the degree of fertilization of 95.8%, the degree of hatching of 94.1%, and the survival rate of 98.0%. The ratio of 5 males : 1 female was the optimal ratio in the spawning of Spotted Barb to produce the highest reproductive performance.
