This study aims to analyze the role of ulama in promoting religious moderation within society and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. Ulama occupy a strategic position as religious role models and authoritative sources of religious guidance who influence the formation of religious attitudes among communities. In the context of a multicultural society, the role of ulama is particularly important in fostering the values of tolerance, balance, and justice in religious life in order to prevent the emergence of extremist attitudes. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentary studies involving a number of ulama, community leaders, and religious institutions in the research area. The data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that ulama play an active role in delivering religious sermons, providing religious education, and guiding communities toward an understanding of moderate Islamic teachings. The main supporting factors include the community’s trust in the religious authority of ulama, as well as support from religious institutions and government agencies. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include limited religious literacy among some members of the community and the influence of social media, which can contribute to the spread of intolerant views. The implications of this study indicate that strengthening the capacity of ulama in moderate religious preaching and fostering cross-institutional collaboration are essential for enhancing social resilience and expanding the implementation of religious moderation values within society.
