This study seeks to assess the methodologies used in the formulation of the Islamic Religious Education curriculum in educational institutions. The research methodology included a qualitative literature review. This research delineates four primary approaches: academic subject, humanistic, technical, and social reconstruction, while also assessing the benefits and drawbacks of implementing the Islamic Education curriculum. The research shows that the academic subject approach provides a strong basis of Islamic knowledge but is less interactive; the humanistic approach always prioritizes the needs and potential of students by demanding high teacher readiness; the technological approach greatly increases the effectiveness of learning with digital media but is very dependent on technology; and the social reconstruction approach emphasizes the application of Islamic values in society but is complex in its application. The four integrations can create students who have intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual intelligence in accordance with Islamic values.
