Abstract

This study aims to develop a practical module for ship machinery based on the operation of the ICE 1–SBR 18 incinerator that is suitable for use as instructional material for cadets of the Nautical Technology Study Program at the Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research data were collected through interviews, material expert validation, and cadet response questionnaires. The module was validated by two material experts to assess its content, presentation, and language feasibility. Meanwhile, cadet responses were collected using a questionnaire with a 1–4 Likert scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the developed practical module contains materials covering the introduction of the ICE 1–SBR 18 incinerator, its components and operating principles, operating procedures, maintenance, troubleshooting, occupational safety, and waste management. The results of material expert validation obtained an average score of 3.62 from the first material expert and 3.58 from the second material expert, both of which were categorized as very feasible. Based on the assessment aspects, the average score for content feasibility was 3.44, presentation feasibility was 3.55, and language feasibility was 3.92. Cadets' responses to the use of the module obtained an average score of 3.73, categorized as very good, with scores of 3.72 for the appearance aspect, 3.75 for the material aspect, and 3.70 for the language aspect. Therefore, the developed practical module for ship machinery based on the operation of the ICE 1–SBR 18 incinerator is considered highly feasible and received very positive responses from the cadets. This module is expected to support more systematic, contextual, and applicable practical learning while improving cadets' competence in the operation and maintenance of shipboard incinerators.
