<![CDATA[Religious traditions that develop within a community are not merely expressions of religious practice but also reflect the social relationships and values that shape communal life. One such tradition is mambaca qulhuwallah, practiced by the people of Parsombaan Village, Padang Lawas, following the death of a community member. The tradition is performed for three consecutive days as a form of religious practice and communal engagement. This study aims to examine the implementation of the mambaca qulhuwallah tradition and to explore the forms of social recognition demonstrated by the Parsombaan community toward the tradition. This study employs a qualitative method using a Living Qur’an approach. Data were collected through observation and interviews with community members involved in the practice. The findings show that the read qulhuwallah tradition consists of three main stages. The first is the preparation stage, which includes providing Yasin books, a sound system, and stones used during the recitation. The second is the recitation stage, which involves reciting istighfar, Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Mu‘awwidhatayn, and prayers at the mosque and at the bereaved family’s home. The third is the closing stage, which includes prayers, the recitation of short Qur’anic chapters, expressions of gratitude from the bereaved family, words of encouragement from community leaders, and the distribution of gift packages to the participants. The community’s social recognition of the tradition is reflected in three dimensions: love, law, and solidarity. The tradition is therefore maintained not only as a religious heritage but also as a means of strengthening social care, togetherness, and communal relationships. In this sense, qulhuwallah demonstrates how Qur’anic recitation can become embedded in local religious traditions while simultaneously contributing to the formation and strengthening of social bonds within the community.]]>
