This study aims to improve students’ understanding of the concept of usury in muamalah through a critical analysis of the phenomena of online gambling and online lending among 11th-grade students at MAS UMMI Lubuk Pakam. This study employs a qualitative approach using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, involving 16 students as research subjects. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis utilized data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that prior to the lesson, most students only had a general understanding of the concept of riba and were unable to identify riba practices in daily life. After the lesson, which involved a critical analysis of the phenomena of online gambling and online lending, the students’ understanding improved. Students were able to explain the concept of riba, identify riba practices in online lending, and understand the prohibition on online gambling based on the concepts of muamalah fiqh. In addition, student engagement in discussions, asking questions, and expressing opinions also increased during the learning process. Thus, a critical analysis of the phenomena of online gambling and online lending can serve as an effective learning alternative to enhance students’ understanding of riba in muamalah.
