Abstract

Used cooking oil is a household waste that is often disposed of without further processing, thus potentially causing environmental problems. One alternative use is to process used cooking oil into non-food products in the form of aromatherapy candles that have utility value and have the potential to be developed as creative products with economic value. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the Sampe Raya Village community in utilizing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles, reduce the habit of throwing used cooking oil carelessly, and encourage community creativity in processing household waste. The activity was held on August 26, 2026, in the Sampe Raya Village Office Hall, involving 15 participants consisting of local residents and PKK women. The implementation method included material delivery, demonstrations, practical guidance, and evaluation of the results of the activity. Participants were divided into three groups, each consisting of five people. After receiving an explanation of the tools, materials, manufacturing stages, and benefits of utilizing used cooking oil, participants practiced candle making with the guidance of KKN students. All groups successfully produced a total of 19 aromatherapy candles. Participants showed high enthusiasm throughout the activity process and were able to follow the manufacturing stages to produce products with good final results. This activity demonstrates that practice-based training can be a community empowerment approach to improving skills in utilizing household waste into valuable products.
