This study investigates the socio-cultural foundations underlying the emergence and development of Sendang Lamongan Batik across centuries. Employing a qualitative method with an anthropological-historical approach, the study integrates Fernand Braudel's concept of long-term history (longue duree) and Marvin Harris's cultural materialism into a unified analytical framework. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with two village heads, three artisans, three entrepreneurs, and two batik traders, and archival documentation. Triangulation of informants, methods, and timeframes was conducted to ensure data credibility. Data analysis followed the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the emergence and development of Sendang Lamongan Batik resulted from the dialectical interaction among three interlocking basis: ecological-material, socio-structural, and cultural-ideological. This study proposes cultural-historical materialism as an integrated analytical framework for tracing cultural phenomena back to their material roots and long-term historical origins.
