This study developed “Batanghari Story”, a local-wisdom-based digital storytelling medium for teaching narrative writing to vocational high school students. The research and development process followed the ADDIE stages. Data were collected through interviews, assessments by two subject-matter and two media experts, questionnaires completed by one teacher and 32 tenth-grade students, observations across three lessons, and writing tasks administered before and after the lessons. The combined expert assessment reached 91.00%; teacher response, 94.00%; student response, 90.00%; and lesson implementation, 94.44%. The mean writing score rose from 67.19 to 84.06. Because paired differences were not normally distributed, they were examined with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (W = 0; p < .001). The mean individual normalized gain was 0.535, and 28 of 32 students scored at least 75 on the posttest. The findings show positive expert and user assessments and improved writing scores during the lessons. As the study used one group without a comparison group, the score increase cannot be attributed solely to the medium.
