Abstract

This research analyzed the overall equipment effectiveness of belt sander machines utilized in the furniture industry, emphasizing their critical role in enhancing the quality and efficiency of wooden surface finishing. The research commenced with a comprehensive review of existing literature, establishing the significance of overall equipment effectiveness as a metric for assessing manufacturing productivity. It observed a POWERMAX Machinery X-1200DAA Heavy Duty Belt Sander Machine, focusing on operational data collected over peak production. The methodology involved calculating the overall equipment effectiveness based on three key performance indicators: availability, performance, and quality. The findings revealed that average overall equipment effectiveness was 63.13%, with monthly variations indicating significant opportunities for operational improvement. Specifically, the highest overall equipment effectiveness of 63.86% was recorded in July, while the lowest was 62.40% in June. The analysis highlighted a consistent availability rate averaging 99.2%, yet performance rates fluctuated considerably, with the lowest performance rate observed at 23% in both July and September. The rate of quality remained high, averaging 99.3%, suggesting that while the products met quality standards, inefficiencies in production processes hindered overall effectiveness. The study concluded that enhancing operator training, implementing structured maintenance programs, and utilizing real-time monitoring systems are essential strategies for improving overall equipment effectiveness in the furniture manufacturing sector. These findings provide a foundation for future research and practical applications aimed at optimizing equipment performance and ensuring sustainable operational practices within industry. The implications of this research underscore the necessity for continuous improvement initiatives to maximize productivity without compromising quality or worker safety.
