Abstract

Operational continuity in plastic packaging manufacturing relies heavily on maintaining equipment reliability and minimizing unplanned production stoppages. General Background Industrial cup printing systems operate under continuous high-speed conditions, making systematic equipment care essential for maintaining operational efficiency. Specific Background At PT Hokkan Deltapack Industri, the cup printing machinery processes large production volumes up to 600 rpm, exposing mechanical and electrical components to friction, overheating, and sudden breakdowns. Knowledge Gap Existing operational literature often lacks field-based descriptions of multi-tier maintenance routines combining scheduled servicing with immediate corrective responses for multi-color offset cup printers. Aims This study evaluates the structured implementation of periodic, scheduled preventive, and breakdown maintenance protocols to mitigate machine downtime during production. Results Systematic monitoring revealed critical failure thresholds, including electric motor currents reaching 3.5 A, thermal overheating exceeding 104°C, and mechanical wear on mandrel bearings, UV curing lamps, and driving V-belts. Novelty This work establishes an integrated practical maintenance framework specifically tailored for 7-color head cup printing units by combining amperage monitoring, thermal checkouts, and timely component replacement. Implications Implementing these multi-stage maintenance protocols stabilizes equipment functionality, extends component lifespan, prevents costly line shutdowns, and provides operational benchmarks for technical teams in packaging industries. Key Findings Highlights Implementation of a three-tier maintenance protocol successfully prevents unscheduled production downtime in continuous packaging manufacturing. Critical motor replacement thresholds were identified at 3.5 A over-current limits and operating temperatures exceeding 104.4°C. High-speed operation up to 600 rpm requires scheduled mandrel rebearing, lubrication, and UV lamp replacements to ensure printing quality.
