The design of the Nursing Home with a healing environment approach is motivated by the increasing number of elderly residents in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, which is accompanied by various physical, psychological, and social problems due to the aging process. The elderly experience decreased body functions, an increased risk of degenerative diseases, and are vulnerable to stress and feelings of isolation, thus requiring residential facilities that not only provide care, but are also able to improve the overall quality of life. The healing environment approach integrates natural elements such as gardens, vegetation, water elements, and green open spaces into the design of the built environment to create a calming atmosphere and support the improvement of the physical and psychological health of the elderly. This design aims to produce a nursing home design that is able to accommodate the physical, mental, and social needs of the elderly through the application of the principles of the healing environment. The design method used in this design refers to Richard Whitaker's eight-step method which includes the stages of introduction, definition, preparation, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and re-evaluation, with data collection through literature studies, observations, and precedent studies. The resulting design is a nursing home area that integrates natural elements such as gardens, green open spaces, natural lighting and ventilation, climate-responsive massing, and safe and accessible circulation. This design is expected to create a safe, comfortable, and calming residential environment that supports the healing process and sustainable well-being of seniors.
