Abstract

Mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.) are an important vegetable commodity, but their productivity may be constrained by intensive dependence on synthetic fertilizers and suboptimal soil management. This study aimed to analyze the effects of mulch type, goat manure organic fertilizer dosage, and their interaction on the physiological response and yield quality of mustard greens under an aerobic cultivation system. The study used a factorial randomized block design with two factors: mulch type, consisting of no mulch, silver-black plastic mulch, and straw mulch, and goat manure dosage of 0, 10, and 20 tons ha⁻¹. Each treatment combination was replicated three times, resulting in 27 experimental units. The observed parameters included soil temperature, soil moisture, leaf chlorophyll content, fresh weight, dry weight, and root length. The results showed that mulch type significantly affected most physiological parameters. Silver-black plastic mulch produced the highest soil moisture and leaf chlorophyll content, whereas straw mulch resulted in the longest roots. Goat manure dosage significantly affected soil temperature and soil moisture at specific observation periods. The interaction between mulch type and goat manure dosage significantly affected root length, whereas fresh weight and dry weight were not significantly affected by either factor or their interaction. These findings indicate that mulch type plays an important role in modifying the soil microenvironment and physiological response of mustard greens, while goat manure dosage contributes to changes in soil conditions under aerobic cultivation.
