Background: Stage 5 chronic kidney disease and maintenance hemodialysis affect physical functioning, psychological well-being, social participation, and environmental quality of life.Purpose: To describe quality of life among adults with stage 5 chronic kidney disease receiving hemodialysis. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study included 60 adults receiving hemodialysis. Quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF and summarized according to the study's recorded overall categories. Participant characteristics and quality-of-life categories were analyzed descriptively. Results: Thirty-five participants (58.3%) had poor quality of life, 15 (25.0%) moderate quality of life, and 10 (16.7%) good quality of life. Most participants were older than 65 years (65.0%), not working (65.0%), married (86.7%), and 73.3% received hemodialysis twice weekly. Conclusion: Poor quality of life predominated. Nursing assessment should address symptom burden, psychological distress, social resources, and environmental barriers in addition to dialysis adequacy. Domain-level WHOQOL-BREF reporting and longitudinal analyses are recommended.
