Abstract

Repeat breeding is one of the reproductive disorders that can reduce reproductive efficiency and productivity in cattle, including female Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus). Bayan District, North Lombok Regency, is an area with a relatively high population of Bali cattle, where repeated pregnancy failure following artificial insemination has still been reported. This study aimed to determine the incidence of repeat breeding in female Bali cattle in Bayan District, North Lombok, Indonesia. The study was conducted using a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The research sample consisted of 68 multiparous female Bali cattle aged 3–7 years, selected using purposive sampling. Primary data were obtained through field observations and interviews with farmers, while secondary data were collected from artificial insemination records available at the UPTD of the Department of Food Security, Fisheries, and Agriculture of Bayan District, North Lombok. Repeat breeding was defined as a condition in which female cattle failed to conceive after three or more inseminations or matings. The results showed that 13 female Bali cattle (19.1%) experienced repeat breeding, while 55 cattle (80.9%) successfully conceived. These findings indicate that the incidence of repeat breeding in female Bali cattle in the study area is categorized as moderate and may potentially reduce reproductive efficiency if not properly managed. Therefore, continuous monitoring of reproductive performance and improvement of reproductive management are necessary to reduce the incidence of repeat breeding and enhance the productivity of Bali cattle.
