Abstract

Quasi-Linear Convective System (QLCS) is a type of linear convective system that can cause extreme weather. There is still little research on QLCS systems in Indonesia, so it is necessary to conduct further research related to the characteristics of QLCS. This research was conducted by identifying QLCS during 2024 in Bengkulu within 150 km range of weather radar to analyze QLCS characteristics in the form of temporal and spatial distribution, formation and decay types, system propagation profiles, and lower layer wind profiles. The radar products used include CMAX, CTR, HWIND, and VSHEAR. The results of this study show that there are 24 QLCS events observed during 2024 in the study area and dominantly occur in December. From the initiation, maturation, to dissipation phases, QLCS mostly occurred in the early morning in the coastal ocean region and most of them were able to last up to 91-120 minutes. In the initiation phase, the QLCS formation process more often occurs with a broken line type. The propagation direction of QLCS tends to the southeast with the dominant speed in the fast moving category (> 7 m/s). The horizontal lower layer wind profile shows that the maximum wind speed is in the range of > 20 knots, while the dominant vertical wind shear encountered in each phase of QLCS life is the strong category.
