Product quality is a critical aspect for producers in the manufacturing industry. One such quality is the surface roughness of the resulting product. A minimal surface roughness indicates a superior CNC machining process. However, achieving minimal surface roughness requires an optimal combination of machining parameters. This study aims to identify the significant process variables and determine their optimal combination in the CNC machining of ST 42 steel to improve its surface roughness. The method employed was Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a Box-Behnken design to analyze three variable factors: cutting speed (at levels of 110-140 m/min), feeding (at levels of 0.25-0.45 mm/rev), and depth of cut (at levels of 0.1-0.5 mm). The results demonstrated that all three factors have a significant influence on the product's surface roughness. The most optimal parameter combination to achieve the best surface roughness was found to be a cutting speed of 264,56 m/min, a feed rate of 0.25 mm/rev, and a depth of cut of 0.1 mm. With these settings, the predicted achievable surface roughness value is 0,16 ?m.
