Outpatient JKN registration at RSUD Balaraja still faces time-efficiency problems because fingerprint authentication frequently fails to verify, particularly among elderly patients, while the effectiveness of face recognition as an alternative remained uncertain. This study aimed to compare the average authentication time of fingerprint and face recognition methods in JKN outpatient registration at RSUD Balaraja in 2026. A quantitative comparative design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 300 respondents (150 fingerprint users and 150 face recognition users) selected through accidental sampling and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test due to non-normal data distribution. Results showed the mean authentication time for fingerprint was 2.91 seconds (median 2.56; SD 2.00), while face recognition was 1.58 seconds (median 1.37; SD 1.27). The Mann-Whitney test yielded Z = -7.864 and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two methods. Face recognition proved faster and more consistent than fingerprint, especially among elderly patients, although it showed a slightly lower first-attempt success rate due to lighting and camera-angle factors. RSUD Balaraja is recommended to strengthen face recognition as the primary authentication method while retaining fingerprint as a secondary method.
