Mathematical critical thinking ability is an essential competency that needs to be developed in students from the elementary school level. However, various studies have shown that the critical thinking ability of elementary school students remains relatively low. One promising pedagogical innovation with the potential to enhance this ability is the gamification-based learning model. This study aims to describe the improvement of students' critical thinking ability through the implementation of gamification in learning. A descriptive quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The subjects consisted of 10 sixth-grade students from SDN Beringin Surabaya, selected through probability sampling. The instrument was a mathematical critical thinking test based on Facione's indicators, comprising 10 pretest and 10 posttest items. Gamification was implemented through a point system, a leaderboard, and simple rewards; students were also required to explain their solution procedures and provide peer feedback. The results indicate an improvement in students' mathematical critical thinking ability following the implementation of gamification, evidenced by an increased number of students meeting the interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference indicators. This study suggests that gamification can serve as an effective alternative strategy for enhancing critical thinking ability in elementary school mathematics instruction.
