Speaking skill is one of the most important productive talents in learning English, especially for the students of rural junior high school who have limited opportunities to practice in the real communicative scenarios. The community service activity was aimed at improving the speaking skills of SMP Negeri 4 Tegal Buleud students through a systematic self introduction training program using the framework of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The program was held on Thursday, 16 April 2026 by lecturers of STKIP Bina Mutiara and involved about 40 students in five stages sequentially, namely warm-up and ice-breaking, structured input delivery, expert modeling, guided pair-work practice, and individual presentation with corrective feedback. Data were gathered by observation using a six-dimensional rubric and indicated that 52.5% of the participants reached the “Very Good” level, 35% “Good” and 12.5% “Sufficient” and no participant was graded below sufficient. The practice lowered language anxiety considerably, enhanced communicative confidence, and improved students’ willingness to communicate (WTC) in English. These findings confirm the relevance of CLT principles to non-formal educational settings and emphasize the strategic position of higher education institutions to close the pedagogical gap in schools in under-served communities. The strategy established is scalable and adaptable for wider community-oriented English speaking empowerment projects.
