Abstract

Child labor is a type of work that must be eliminated to achieve decent work. Child labor is still a global problem, including in Indonesia. The causes of child labor are closely related to family factors, namely parents' work and poverty. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of informality and poverty on child labor in Indonesia using data from the 2021 National Socio-Economic Survey. The method used is multinomial logit regression analysis with work, work-school, and school categories in children aged 10-17. The analysis results show that the relative opportunity for children to work and work while attending school compared to school is higher for households with a head of household working in the informal sector compared to the formal sector. Poverty has a different pattern where the relative opportunity for children to work compared to school is higher in poor households than in non-poor. However, the relative probability of a child working while attending school is lower for poor households than for non-poor households. Policies related to parental informality and poverty can be intensified to reduce child labor in Indonesia.
