Rhodamine B is a carcinogenic water pollutant found in textile waste. Methods for reducing rhodamine B levels in water are needed to reduce the potential for environmental damage. This research examines methods for reducing rhodamine B levels in water via adsorption and photocatalytic degradation using a reusable magnetic adsorbent, Fe3O4/SiO2/MnO2, so that the released adsorbate is a simple compound with low pollution potential. The stages of this research include stages (1) synthesis of Fe3O4 (2) synthesis of Fe3O4/SiO2 composite (3) synthesis of Fe3O4/SiO2/MnO2 and its characterization (4) performance test of parts of the composite, namely Fe3O4, Fe3O4/SiO2, and commercial MnO2 (5) test the performance of Fe3O4/SiO2/MnO2 as a reducer of rhodamine B dye levels in water. The characterization results show that the Fe3O4/SiO2/MnO2 composite has been successfully synthesized. The XRD diffractogram shows typical MnO2 peaks at 24.31°, 41.53°, 60.23°, and 67.73°, which correspond to COD card Nos. 00-151-4109 and 00-151-4101. FTIR characterization shows a peak at 630 cm-1, indicating an Mn-O vibration. SEM-EDX results show that the composite consists of Fe, Si, Mn, and O. Under optimal conditions, the Fe3O4/SiO2/MnO2 adsorbent reduces rhodamine B levels by 91%.
