Morphological characteristics are an important aspect of plant identification and can serve as a basis for the development of horticultural cultivation technologies. This study aims to identify and describe the morphological characteristics of various types of horticultural vegetables based on their vegetative and generative traits. The research method employed a descriptive exploratory approach with purposive sampling through direct observation of nine types of horticultural vegetables (bird's eye chili, cucumber, tomato, water spinach, lettuce, common bean, celery, mustard greens, and basil) cultivated by farmers around Siliwangi University Campus II Mugarsari, Tasikmalaya, from March to May 2025. The observed parameters included characteristics of the stems, leaves, and flowers in accordance with guidelines for plant morphological description. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively by comparing the similarities and differences in morphological characteristics among plant species. The identification results show that each type of vegetable plant has distinctive morphological characteristics, particularly in stem shape, leaf shape and arrangement, and flower characteristics, which distinguish the species, including those belonging to the same family. These variations provide important information for species identification, the selection of cultivation techniques, and more effective plant management. Therefore, the identification of morphological characteristics can serve as a scientific reference for the development of horticultural vegetable cultivation, support germplasm characterization, and inform pollination and plant breeding approaches as well as future botanical research.
