Digital transformation within educational institutions has accelerated the development of web- and mobile-based information systems for tuition fee (SPP) payments. However, the existing scientific literature remains fragmented, characterized by a wide variety of technical approaches, necessitating a systematic mapping. This study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to map trends in the development of digital tuition payment information systems in educational institutions from 2020 to 2026. The review follows Kitchenham’s guidelines and the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Out of 342 articles identified across databases—including Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, Garuda, and Sinta—38 key articles met the inclusion and quality evaluation criteria. The synthesis reveals that the Waterfall development methodology remains dominant (52.6%), followed by Agile/Scrum and RAD approaches (47.4%). Modern system architectures rely heavily on MVC frameworks (such as Laravel and CodeIgniter) integrated with automated payment gateways (e.g., Midtrans, Xendit) and QRIS via Webhook/Callback mechanisms, which have been shown to increase transaction verification success rates to over 98.5%. Software quality evaluation has shifted from simple black-box functional testing toward comprehensive assessments based on the System Usability Scale (SUS), the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and the ISO/IEC 25010 standard. Future trends point toward the adoption of AI-driven predictive analytics for cash receipt estimation, as well as microservices-based architectures. Consequently, this study provides a structured landscape of the research, while identifying existing gaps and future development directions for digital tuition payment systems.
