The purpose of this study was to use Newman's Error Analysis to examine students' errors when working on probability problems in the Academic Ability Test (TKA). Twenty eighth-grade students from MTs Jabal Noer Banyuasin were the subjects in this study, which used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were obtained through written tests and interviews. The analysis was carried out based on Newman's stages, namely reading, understanding, transformation, process skills, and answer writing. The results showed that students still made various types of errors in solving probability problems. The most dominant errors were in process and transformation skills, because students still had difficulty calculating and converting problem information into correct mathematical models. In addition, errors in reading, understanding problems, and writing answers were also found due to negligence and a lack of understanding of the concept of probability. Therefore, learning that emphasizes conceptual understanding and TKA-based practice questions is needed.
