Most of women experiencing breast cancer face insomnia issues. One spiritual approach to alleviating insomnia among female breast cancer patients is through the practice of Istigfar dhikr. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Istigfar dhikr in reducing insomnia in female breast cancer patients. Applying a nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design, this study involved a total of 16 subjects divided equally into an experimental group (n = 8) and a waitlist control group (n = 8). Participants were selected through purposive sampling with the criteria of Muslim female breast cancer patients aged 18 to 59 years in Yogyakarta who experienced baseline insomnia. The study applied Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) developed by Morin et al. and the Istigfar dhikr therapy module by Ruidahasi et al. (2021), which was delivered across 3 main sessions totaling 6 hours of treatment. The data analysis technique employed was the paired sample t-test. The research findings showed a significant difference in insomnia levels before and after the application of Istigfar dhikr (W = 28.00, p = .021). This preliminary study demonstrated Istigfar dhikr effectively reduces the patients’ insomnia levels. This study contributes to the advancement of Islamic psychology by providing empirical evidence on the efficacy of a specific, original Islamic intervention—Istigfar dhikr—in mitigating insomnia among female breast cancer patients. The implication of these results is the integration of spiritually based interventions into efficient supportive care to mitigate insomnia in breast cancer patients.
