The availability of compressed air systems is an important factor in supporting ship operational readiness, particularly for the starting system of main and auxiliary engines. The Main Air Compressor has a significant role in producing and supplying pressurized air stored in the air receiver. However, operational problems may occur when the compressor is unable to fill air optimally, which can affect the reliability of the compressed air system on board. This study aims to identify the factors causing insufficient air supply from the Main Air Compressor on MV. Golden Permai and to analyze the appropriate handling and prevention efforts to maintain compressor performance. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach through direct observation, documentation, and information collection from engine crew regarding the operation and maintenance activities of the Main Air Compressor. The results showed that the decrease in compressor performance was caused by several factors, including wear of the piston ring causing compression leakage, suboptimal conditions of suction valve and discharge valve, reduced intercooler and cooling system performance, dirty air filters, and possible leakage in compressed air lines. The handling efforts included inspection, cleaning, repair, and replacement of damaged components, while prevention was carried out through regular maintenance based on the planned maintenance system. It can be concluded that proper inspection and preventive maintenance of the Main Air Compressor components are required to ensure the availability of compressed air and support the operational reliability of MV.
