This study evaluates the technical and economic performance of waste cooking oil biodiesel blends (B30 and B50) in a Dongfeng 8 HP marine diesel engine commonly used by small-scale fishing vessels. Experimental tests were conducted under engine loads of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% to assess fuel consumption, brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), engine power output, exhaust temperature, and operational fuel costs. The results showed that increasing biodiesel concentration led to higher BSFC values, reaching 0.516 kg/kWh for B30 and 0.619 kg/kWh for B50 at full load, compared with 0.390 kg/kWh for diesel fuel (B0). Engine power decreased from 5.15 kW for B0 to 4.36 kW and 4.12 kW for B30 and B50, respectively. However, biodiesel blends reduced operating costs to Rp50,963/h for B30 and Rp50,363/h for B50, compared with Rp54,270/h for diesel fuel. In addition, exhaust gas temperatures decreased with increasing biodiesel content. These findings demonstrate that waste cooking oil biodiesel can provide economic benefits while maintaining acceptable engine performance for small-scale fishing vessel applications.
