This community service activity aims to improve the capacity of livestock farmers through the introduction of feed technologies, specifically the ammoniation of rice straw and the cultivation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots, in Nagari Tebing Tinggi, Dharmasraya Regency. The main challenges faced by our partners are the limited availability of high-quality feed especially during the dry season and the low utilization of agricultural and organic waste as alternative feed sources. The activities were carried out through outreach, demonstrations, training, and mentoring. The outreach aimed to improve farmers’ understanding of alternative feed technologies. The demonstrations and training focused on the practice of producing ammoniated straw feed and techniques for raising maggots as an alternative protein source. Mentoring was provided on an ongoing basis to ensure the effective implementation of these technologies at the farmer level. The results of the activities demonstrate an increase in farmers’ capacity, both in terms of knowledge and skills, in processing rice straw into nutritionally valuable feedsuch as ammoniated rice straw feed for cattle and in enhancing their knowledge and skills in cultivating maggots (Black Soldier Fly/BSF) for poultry. There are 2 cattle farmers who consistently produce and use ammoniated rice straw feed for their cattle, as well as 1 duck farmer and 1 free-range chicken farmer who sustainably raise maggots as feed for their livestock.
