Abstract

The tourism industry sector’s multi-stakeholder nature and growing sustainability requirements have increased significantly the sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). However, there remains a scarcity of empirical research regarding the identification and validation of critical SSCM attributes within service-oriented tourism supply chains particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to identify and validate the important qualities of SSCM that are relevant to the Indonesian tourism industry. The framework was validated by the Fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) to combine the expert opinions and get the consensus of the necessary qualities. Data were obtained from 35 academics and practitioners with wide experience in tourism. Expert consensus and threshold values examined and refined and original framework of eight dimensions and thirty indicators. The results corroborate five basic SSCM characteristics and twelve indicators as important components of sustainable tourism supply chains. In the validated dimensions, the collaboration and coordination dimension had the highest threshold value, which indicates significantly the interorganizational cooperation and coordinated governance in the sustainable tourism development. This study contributes to the SSCM literature by providing an empirically validated paradigm specific to the tourism context. Practically, the framework can help tourism managers and policymakers to assess the actions connected to sustainability and enhance the supply chain integration.
