Abstract

The mechanical performance of stereolithography (SLA)-printed lattice structures is governed by both unit-cell topology and processing parameters. However, previous studies have largely examined lattice topology and SLA processing parameters separately, with limited systematic investigation of their combined effects on manufacturing quality, mechanical performance, and structural efficiency within a unified experimental framework. This study experimentally evaluated three lattice topologies, namely Body-Centered Cubic (BCC), Face-Centered Cubic (FCC), and Hexagonal, combined with layer thicknesses of 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15 mm and post-curing times of 40, 50, and 60 min. Five specimens were tested for each of the nine Taguchi L9 experimental conditions (n = 5), and the responses were analysed using the Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Manufacturing quality was evaluated from dimensional accuracy and mass, while mechanical performance was assessed through Shore D hardness and tensile, compressive, and flexural tests. Structural efficiency was evaluated using Mass Reduction (MR), Mechanical Performance Retention (MPR), Specific Mechanical Performance (SMP), and Mechanical Performance per Apparent Volume (MPV). The BCC topology exhibited the highest dimensional accuracy, with a strut diameter deviation of 0.60%, whereas Hexagon showed the largest deviation of 7.60%. Layer thickness was the dominant factor affecting hardness, contributing 97.8% of the variation, while lattice topology dominated tensile, compressive, and flexural strength, with contributions of 89.7%, 91.6%, and 55.8%, respectively. FCC provided the highest MPR, SMP, and MPV values, whereas Hexagon achieved the highest mass reduction of 26.50%. Within the investigated parameter ranges, FCC with a 0.05 mm layer thickness and 40–50 min post-curing provided the most favorable overall performance. These results demonstrate that integrating lattice topology, SLA processing parameters, mechanical performance, and structural efficiency provides a comprehensive basis for selecting lightweight lattice configurations.
