This study aims to determine whether Jigsaw-type cooperative learning based on digital student worksheets (DSW) produces a greater improvement in mathematical communication ability, measured as the change in score from pretest to posttest (gain score), than conventional learning among Grade VIII students on the topic of systems of linear equations in two variables (SLETV). A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design was applied at MTs Negeri 1 Labuhanbatu. Two classes of 30 students each were selected through purposive sampling: an experimental class taught with Jigsaw cooperative learning based on DSW and a control class taught conventionally. Data were collected through essay pretests and posttests. The Shapiro–Wilk normality test and Levene’s homogeneity test were applied to the gain score of each class, and the hypothesis was tested with the Welch t-test and confirmed with the Mann–Whitney U test. The mean gain score was 26.13 points in the experimental class and 9.23 points in the control class, a significant difference of 16.90 points (t = 11.344; p 0.001; Mann–Whitney U, p 0.001). Thus, Jigsaw cooperative learning based on DSW leads to a greater improvement in students’ mathematical communication ability in SLETV than conventional learning.
