Abstract

Elderly was the final stage of human life growth that various physical and psychosocial changes. One result of thesechanges was the risk of falling. The risk of falling in the elderly influenced by intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors.This study aims to determine the factors associated with the risk of falling in the elderly who live at home in the workarea of Limapuluh Community Health Center. The design of this research is correlation research design with crosssectional approach. The sample of the study was 96 people taken based on inclusion criteria using Proportionatestratified random sampling technique. The results showed the majority of research subjects aged 60-74 years as muchas 86.5%, female sex as much as 81.2%, the majority of elderly have a history of hypertension disease as much as36.5%. The intrinsic showed that elderly with 58.3% heart disorder, 69.8% motion disorder, 56.3% neurologicaldisorder, visual impairment 67.7%, hearing loss 39.6% and extrinsic factor showed that elderly using tool walking aids34.4% and environment at risk 45.8%. High risk elderly fell 46.9%, moderate risk 25.0%, didn’t risk 28.1%. The resultof chi-square test showed that the factors that related to fall risk were intrinsic including heart disorders p = 0.006,limb disruption p = 0.002, neurological disorders p = 0,024, visual disturbance p = 0,004, hearing loss p = 0,007 andit includes walking aids p = 0,000, environment p = 0.003. So it could be concluded that intrinsic factors and extrinsicfactors are factors that are closely related to the risk of falling in the elderly. The older the elderly, the more risky thefall.Keywords: elderly, extrinsic factor, fall risk, intrinsic factor
