KONTROVERSI FIQH KIBLAT; STUDI KOMPARATIF ATAS FIQH-MITOLOGIS DAN FIQH-FALAK DI MASJID AGUNG DEMAK

This article intends to explain the controversy of the direction of qibla that occurred in the Great Mosque of Demak. Through this library research it is found that there are two groups concerning about this qibla. This difference of opinion is based on the difference of thought; one emphasizes the science-astronomy, and the other consider socio- mythological more. Although all of them state both fiqhiyyah and astronomy arguments, but because they use different accentuation then there is different results. The first group wants qibla direction of the mosque changed based on scientific and academic calculations. The second group determines that the qibla of the mosque remains as before on the basis that the existing qibla direction was also scientifically calculated hundreds of years ago. In addition, the person who did it also has the esoteric-metaphysical dimension. Finally, based on this consideration, the qibla direction remains same like before.Keywordsqibla, the Great Mosque of Demak, falak, myth. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kontroversi arah kiblat yang terjadi di Masjid Agung Demak. Melalui penelitian pustaka ini ditemukan bahwa terdapat dua kelompok yang mempersoalkan hal tersebut. Kontroversi ini disebabkan oleh perbedaan metodologi; satu pihak menekankan sains-astronomi, dan pihak lainnya lebih mengedepankan pertimbangan sosio-mitologis. Meskipun kedua kelompok sama-sama mengajukan argumentasi fiqhiyah dan astronomi, akan tetapi karena menitikberatkan aksentuasi yang berbeda maka hasilnya pun berbeda. Kelompok pertama menginginkan agar arah kiblat masjid dirubah berdasarkan perhitungan sains dan akademik. Sedangkan kelompok kedua menekankan agar arah kiblat masjid tetap seperti semula dengan dasar bahwa arah kiblat yang telah ada juga sudah diperhitungkan secara ilmiah ratusan tahun yang lalu. Selain itu, yang melakukannya juga orang yang memiliki dimensi esoterik-metafisik. Atas dasar pertimbangan ini maka pendapat kedualah yang diambil sehingga arah kiblat masjid tetap seperti semula.
