Orientasi Baru adalah Jurnal ilmiah yang bertujuan menyampaikan pemikiran-pemikiran kritis yang dapat memberi inspirasi dan arah baru bagi kehidupan Gereja dan masyarakat Indonesia di tengah kemajemukan budaya dan agama dalam diskusi bidang filsafat, teologi ataupun ilmu-ilmu terkait dalam bentuk karya tulis, laporan penelitian dan resensi buku. Jurnal ini diterbitkan oleh Pusat Penelitian Teologi Kontekstual, Fakultas Teologi Universitas Sanata Dharma. Jurnal terbit 2 kali dalam setahun (April dan Oktober).

Abstract

What or who is human? This is one of the oldest questions in history. Philosopherand scientist from various disciplines try to answer it based on their researchand theories. What is unique in žižek approach is his effort to combine twodifferent schools of thought as an intellectual instrument to answer this question,namely German Idealism and Jacques Lacan’s Psychoanalysis. Inspired by thephilosophy of German Idealism, he argued that the essence of human is notinside his or her self, but outside, namely the symbolic order that determine theirself. And inspired by Lacan, he argued that the self always embedded in thesymbolic order, and constantly disrupted by the Real. In this context, we can saythat human is a dialectical subject.

Abstract

A horrifying story of suicide is found in 2Macc 14:37-46. Surprisingly, the act isnot condemned; it is even highly praised. Can it be assumed then that the Bibleapproves suicide acts? To answer that question, we need to study the passagecarefully and compare it to other suicide stories that can be found in the OldTestament and Deuterocanonical books. Since the passage is considered as a storyof martyrdom, we need to consider also the Bible and Jewish traditions’ point ofview on martyrdom. There are many varying points of view that demand cautionwhen drawing conclusions on this controversial issue, by weighing in the contextof the story, political forces that influence the writing of the story, moral aspectsand avoiding literal interpretation of the Bible.

Abstract

Krisis ekonomi yang melanda Indonesia dan mencapai puncaknya pada tahun1997/ 1998 telah mendorong ditetapkannya Undang-undang tentang OtonomiDaerah. Beranggapan bahwa otonomi daerah dan otonomi pendidikan akan membantu mengatasi masalah tersebut, maka pemerintah menetapkan School-Based Management (SBM) sebagai bentuk sistem pendidikan Indonesia. Penelitian mengenai SBM memunculkan dua pendapat yang berbeda. Temuan positif mengenai penerapan SBM menunjukkan bahwa penerapan SBM dianggapmampu memberdayakan daerah setempat; sementara itu, penelitian yang lainmenunjukkan bahwa penerapan SBM justru dianggap memunculkan masalahbaru. Karena fokus penelitian yang terpisah-pisah, penulis beranggapan bahwapenelitian tersebut kurang dapat memberikan gambaran mengenai fenomenapendidikan di Indonesia secara menyeluruh. Bertolak dari kondisi tersebut,penulis mencoba menyatukan informasi untuk memunculkan konteks yangdapat membantu pembaca dalam memahami dinamika penerapan SBM dan kemudian mengenali tantangan penerapan SBM tersebut.

Abstract

Konsili Vatikan II (1962-1965) merupakan Konsili Ekumenik pertama dalamGereja Katolik yang merumuskan suatu doktrin tentang pewahyuan kristianisecara menyeluruh, yakni dalam Konstitusi Dogmatis tentang Wahyu Ilahi(Dei Verbum). Dokumen yang sangat penting ini merupakan hasil kompromisekaligus sebuah sintesis antara kesetiaan pada tradisi Gereja dan keterbukaanterhadap perkembangan dan penemuan baru zaman ini, suatu keteganganyang senyatanya menjadikan Gereja sungguh sebagai suatu paguyuban yanghidup. Dengan kembali ke sumber-sumber Kitab Suci, Tradisi dan Magisterium,Dei Verbum menampilkan kebaruan pemahaman akan pewahyuan (dan iman).Pewahyuan pertama-tama dilihat sebagai misteri pemberian diri Allah kepadamanusia dalam sejarah yang memuncak dalam pribadi Yesus Kristus

Abstract

Discussion on social-political ethics brings us to understand that democraticsystem has to give space for the people’s participation when a public policy istaken. Democracy or “government by and for the people” requires some form ofrepresentation and must bring the people to the welfare society. Welfare society isnot only how to fulfill the basic needs of the people but also how to empower theconducive interaction and relationship among them. For this reason, democracytakes freedom and justice to be the basic ideal for living together. Freedom andjustice will grow the personal responsibility in a society. This essay is an attemptto revive the importance and the essence of a democratic system in our societynowadays.

Abstract

Merton’s thought on Christian’s involvement in human issues is the result of hisstruggle in living spiritual life. At first, as a young monk he thought that in orderto meet God someone must break away from all sorts of problems that occur insociety. However, in subsequent developments, he discovered that when peoplewalked toward God through contemplation, where he had to detach his false selfand then discover his inner self, he will find that in his inner self a person is notonly in unity with God, but also with his fellowmen. Thus contemplation is a seaof love where person is in unity with God and his fellowman. Contemplation is adynamic experience of loving God animating a fraternal and peaceful life.
