Orientasi Baru adalah Jurnal ilmiah yang bertujuan menyampaikan pemikiran-pemikiran kritis yang dapat memberi inspirasi dan arah baru bagi kehidupan Gereja dan masyarakat Indonesia di tengah kemajemukan budaya dan agama dalam diskusi bidang filsafat, teologi ataupun ilmu-ilmu terkait dalam bentuk karya tulis, laporan penelitian dan resensi buku. Jurnal ini diterbitkan oleh Pusat Penelitian Teologi Kontekstual, Fakultas Teologi Universitas Sanata Dharma. Jurnal terbit 2 kali dalam setahun (April dan Oktober).

Water is the source of life. Every living thing depends on the presence of water. Without water, life will never exist. Physically, water is needed by every of the absolute water has its own meaning. Man pulls out spiritual meaning of the local culture’s value especially about Wayang story. The meaning is “Peziarahan Bima Mencari Air Kehidupan Dewaruciâ€. Bima is a fictional character in Wayang culture that developed in Java. Bima is a symbol of man who longs to live with God. Bima integrates his existence and essence of his life. Bima is a true image of all human pilgrimage in the world. Bima is a symbol of individuation to achieve the perfection of life. Perfection was reflected in Acts Dewaruci. Bima met Dewaruci, and received Eternal Life Water (Words of Salvation). Finally, Bima can live happily in manunggaling kawula Gusti.

This article focused on Contextually Christology reflections. They are Leonardo Boff’s Christology reflection in Latin America, Aloysius Pieris’ in Asian, and Banawiratma’s in Indonesian as the examples of Contextual Christology reflection with different context. Comparative method is used to learn the idiosyncrasy of each author in context to present the meaning of Jesus Christ in the church’s struggle and experiences in different context. From this research it was found that contextually Christological reflection found an image of Christ in which it lives and edifying the church struggle now a days. Christians are the majority group in Latin America. The faiths of Jesus Christ encourage fighting for liberation and justice in the middle of various socio economic and politic life of bondage. In Asia, Christian are minority, the preaching of the faith of Jesus Christ as a savior is only effective in a dialogue with a view to safety in Asian religion. In Indonesian contextual, the dialogue with the local community in introducing Christ to be approached by understanding the meaning of sacrifice in relation with a real love of the neighbor.

Buddhist meditation is a means to self-examination and spiritual practices which mostly misunderstood both by Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike! Meditation is a thought of as a form of self-denial and escape from the harsh reality of life. It is not difficult to understand as people tend to associate the word of meditation to a man/women sitting cross legged, doing nothing, which suggest laziness and indifference toward life’s affairs. Contrary to the above misconception, Buddhist meditation is actually a way to attain spiritual prosperity and wisdom. The original term for Buddhist meditation is Bhavana, which means mental development. It consists of two modes of meditation, namely samatha/Samadhi, to attain mental quiescence, and vipassana/vipasyana, to achieve penetrative insight. Buddhist meditation is a powerful spiritual exercise to attain mental transformation and peace of mind. By utilizing the faculty of will power, concentration and sharp awareness, Buddhist meditation enabled the practitioners to realized tranquility, happiness and wisdom to the real nature of everything.

Our world now is economic world because it is colored by economic activities. Economic activities occur when two parties agree to the value or price of the transacted good or service, commonly expressed in a certain currency. A modern market is based on economy where goods and services are produced without interference and let the market run according to demand and supply. This article will deals with the John Locke’s concept about the economy, Adam Smith’s concept about the liberal economy, critic’s Karl Marx to the liberal economy, business and free market. The end of this article, I will present how the Catholic Church sees the economic activities as human activity for human development.

The focus of this paper is how to preserve the living environment comprehensively in crisis situation in which a very poor environment. The method used for writing this article is a pastoral reflection method. The reflection comes from the real life or the experiences of environment crisis. The next step is to find out the crisis of fundamental method. The last stage of the pastoral reflection is presenting proposals for overcoming the crisis environment and with a comprehensive approach to seeking ways to conserve the environment concrete. The conclusion from this reflection is the environmental crisis occurred because of the consciousness, Human’s mentality and responsibility are integral part of nature that must preserve the unity of his life in his environment which sometimes obscured by the mentality of anthropocentric (means human as the center and the ruler of the universe) and biocentrism (human’s consciousness as a part of the living thing). To preserve nature, human beings need to build awareness and ecological mentality, that is, every person is aware and living life in a synergistic networking with others, God’s creations and God. Preserving environment is a human responsibility to cherish and develop comprehensive and integral life.

The discussion on the relationship between the real and the rational has been slanting the history of philosophy since the time of classical Greece to contemporary times. This article discusses Thomas Aquinas’ critical analytical thinking about the theme above. The aim of the reach of the research is to find out the thought of Thomas Aquinas ‘ synthesis of themes such as the enlightenment for enthusiasts philosophical thinking. Aquinas agreed with Plato’s position stating that the real world to participate world of ideas. According to Aquinas’ point of view, Plato and Aristotle are both correct and wrong. Yet, Thomas against Plato’s statement which said that concrete life separate from forma. In a confrontation with the thought of Aristotle, Thomas agreed that forma tied to the material. But he rejected Aristotle’s said that the forma has no relation to life eternal. Aquinas was a moderate realist who accepts the existence of a universal. The universal exists in the human mind, also in any content and at the same time there is transcendent in the mind of God.
