Abstract

In 2009, Commission for Liturgy of the Archdiocese of Semarang published a liturgical songbook for the youth: Bernyanyilah Bagi Tuhan (BBT). The author is interested in answering a question: have liturgical songs in BBT responded to the needs of the youth and affected their understanding of faith? To answer this question, the author has conducted a field research by using qualitative research methods. To obtain relevant data, the authors conducted an in-depth interview with fifteen participants. The findings reveal positive signs that the BBT songs have met the needs of the youth through singing those songs for the youth. The songs also prove to affect their understanding of faith. Its significant influence is clearly seen from the participations of youth in various Eucharistic celebrations. Through those songs, young people are helped to express their faith physically and spiritually by way of singing in a Eucharist.

Abstract

Churchs ministry is to stand in solidarity with the poor, oppressed and to safeguard creation. This call requires the Church which means all Christians to get involved in the worlds socio-political affairs. Consequently, the Church is and must be political in a broad and noble sense. A prophetic liberative mission of the Church includes promoting love, justice, solidarity and fraternity among the entire human family, defending the dignity of the human person in its fullness and safeguarding the integrity of creation in cooperation with all people of good will. The Church will be in position of supporting the just worlds socio-economic and political affairs, but will denounce unjust practices in any form that do not respect the dignity of the human person, destroying livelihoods of the poor or do not safeguard creation as common heritage of humankind. This is to be done without violating the principle of justice and of separation between religion and state.

Abstract

Repentance is one of the most important theme in Gods salvific plan for human being. Somehow nowadays, repentance seems unfavourable for many. People tend to look down on guilty feeling, avoiding any form of judgement or punishment, and to fall into misunderstandings of repentance as well as the sacrament of reconciliation. Repentance needs to be preached continuously, yet with a more positive approach. One way to do it is to use a joyful image of repentance, which indeed can be found in the Scripture and the Doctrine of Church. By finding those images, repentance will bring more joy, not only for the angels in heaven (cf. Luke 15:10), but for the people in the world, especially those who has good will to repent.

Abstract

Celibacy as a living testimony calls for a re-interpretation on its meaning. Re-engagement on celibacy is sought by reflecting deeply and discovering the richness of its meaning and value, especially through the Scriptures and Church Documents. The attempt to interpret the meaning of celibacy aims to discover the privilege of that choice of life. That privilege is necessary for celibacy to be an inspiring and truly relevant life choice in today's world. Celibacy will increasingly become a living witness for the people today, when is lived with joy by the priests and religious with the support of the faithful and the grace of God. Thus, celibacy becomes a viable choice of life to be appreciated and championed. How to love, how to serve, and way of life are three points of re-interpretation of the meaning of celibacy as a testimony. These three ways are an approach that needs to be endeavored and lived continuously so that celibacy becomes a meaningful witness of life for the Church and does not close the possibility of being a testimony to the people around them.

Abstract

Barrenness is a serious problem for couples in a culture that emphasizes the importance of generating descendants such as one of the time of the Judeo-Christian Scripture. This writing offers a theological reflection that comes from the Old Testament. Children is Gods grace for the family. Nevertheless, having no children should no longer be seen solely as a burden for a couple but rather as part of the mystery of God's grace for their lives as family. God may use barrenness to increase faith in God. God may direct barren married couple to use their time and freedom to serve Him. Still, God may use barrenness as an opportunity for adoption. Finally, God may use barrenness as a witness to those who have children to cherish them as God's grace.

Abstract

"He who is unable to reinterpret his past may also be incapable of projecting concretely his interest in emancipation" (Paul Ricoeur). In understanding a theologizing process, our attention should not focus on reality alone, but also on the means or tools to understand that reality. This paper intends to explain the means or tools of the theologizing process according to Ricoeur that is used to understand a reality. As a process, it shall not be only about method, but also methodology, namely a process of thinking, the brought interest and the achieved value premises. Its guiding question is Ricoeurs theologizing methodology called hermeneutics. Through dialogue with many partners, Ricoeur found a methodology of reality-reading, first affirmative then critical. This is an affirmative-critical gesture. However, this methodology is inadequate to do reading on an extreme context. It takes effort to reverse Ricoeur's methodology by first prioritizing the critical against the reality distortion, and only then be affirmative to uncover hope of a good and just life. Finally, the theologizing process requires a dialectical methodology of reading a reality, between critical-affirmative and affirmative-critical gestures. Context at hand shall determine what goes first.
