Abstract

                                              ABSTRACT         This skripsi entitled Speech Disfluency on “English Speeches” Channel at Youtube (A Psycholinguistic Analysis). The thing that we often encounter in speech is disfluency. This disfluency itself occurs due to several factors, both from within and from outside the speaker. The objectives of this research are identify and classify kinds of disfluencies also analyze the factors made speech disfluency on speech videos at Youtube. The writer used Fox-Tree’s (1995) theory for identifying and classifying kinds of disfluencies and used Bortfeld’s, et al. (2001) theory for analyzing the factors made speech disfluencies. The writer used descriptive method in this research. The results of this research indicate that in some of the speech videos studied were found to be more dominant with silent and filled pauses, this is due the factors in the speaker when delivering their speech. Lack of preparation, the large number of audiences, the age of the speaker, the topic of the speech and the enviromental conditions at the time of delivering the speech also have a big effect on the speaker’s disfluency.Keywords: Speech Disfluency, Speech Videos YouTube, Psycholinguistics Analysis

Abstract

                                                ABSTRAK           Tujuan yang akan dicapai dalam penelitian ini yaitu : (1) mendeskripsikan fungsi-fungsi sosial sastra dan novel surat kecil untuk Tuhan, ditinjau dari fungsi sosial yang di di dalamnya terdapat nilai moral dan nilai religious. (2) mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur pembentuk karya sastra yang terdapat dalam novel surat kecil untuk Tuhan, ditinjau dari unsur pembentuk karya sastra didalamnya terdapat tema, alur/plot, penokohan dan latar/setting.Penelitian ini berupa analisis sosiologi sastra dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif.. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi sosial sastra meliputi nilai moral dan nilai religious. Nilai moral merupakan sifat-sifat atau hal-hal penting yang berguna bagi kemanusiaan. Nilai moral dan sastra menunjukkan baik baik buruk isi dalam sebuah novel, sedangkan nilai religious adalah kualitas hidup manusia dan dalam fungsi sosial sastra dalam novel ini yaitu kualitas beribadah dalam hal berdoa dalam percakapan-percakapan pada novel surat kecil untuk Tuhan. Sementara unsur-unsur pembentuk karya sastra berupa tema, alur/plot, penokohan dan latar atau setting itu hanya pelengkap dalam sebuah karya sastra khusus pada unsur-unsur pembentuk karya sastra.Kata kunci : sosiologi sastra, fungsi sosial, unsur pembentuk karya sastra, novel Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan.

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRACT           Meme is a humorous picture that is used as a way of communicating ideas. Nowadays meme is does not only function as a fun way to communicate but also as a campaign medium, as advertisements, etcetera. That is why the writer decided to do a research entitled “Myth on Popular Culture Reference Meme on Knowyourmeme.com”. As a requirement to achieve the Bachelor Degree in English Department at Faculty of Humanities in Sam Ratulangi, this skripsi entitled “Myth on Popular Culture Reference Meme on Knowyourmeme.com” is finished and submitted. This research aims to identify and classify the signifier and signified element of pop culture reference memes. The result of the previous step will be used to analyze the myth in each meme to find out the new concept or new meaning. The writer used qualitative research method in this research. The data were collected from knowyourmeme.com and were analyzed using Barthes’ theory of myth. The new concept of each meme is dependent on the objective of the maker and could change according to the composition of text and image in the meme. This research is expected to be able to help students and readers in learning semiotics and the making of another researches about memes and semiotics.Keywords: Semiotic, Myth, Meme, Pop Culture Reference

Abstract

Pamantung, M.Hum2                                  Dr. Garryn Ch, Ranuntu, S.Pd, M.Hum3        This research is entitled “Pronouns in the transcript of Lady Diana’s Panorama Interview with Martin Bashir”. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, analyze and describe the meaning of “Pronouns in the transcript of Martin Bashir Panorama Interview with Lady Diana”. The descriptive method is used in this research and the data were collected from the transcript of the interview and analyzed based on the theory of William (2005). The result of this research shows that in the transcript there is six types of pronouns namely: personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, Reflexive pronouns, Demonstrative Pronouns, Indefinite Pronouns, Relative Pronouns. There is the meaning from six types of Pronouns, Personal pronoun are pronoun that are used to represent people or things. Possessive pronoun are pronoun that are used to help us show ownership in a sentence. Reflexive pronoun are words ending in self or selves to show oneself or someone else. Demonstrative pronoun is a pronoun that are used to point something in sentence. Indefinite pronoun are those one or more unspecified objects or things. Relative pronoun is pronoun that are used to connecting meaning in a sentence. This research can provide knowledge about the meaning of pronouns in syntax studies, especially for readers, and can help students of the Faculty of Humanities, especially students majoring in English Department to examine pronouns using different objects, also this research can be used as a reference for further research.-------------------------------------------Keywords: Syntax, Pronouns, Lady Diana, Interview, Martin Bashir

Abstract

Lasut, M.Hum2                             Dr. Garryn C. Ranuntu, S.Pd., M.Hum3         This research entitled “Illocutionary Act of Donald Trump’s Press Conference on 2018 North Korea-United States Singapore Summit” is a pragmatic analysis focusing on speech act, especially, illocutionary act. This research is an attempt to indentify and classify types and analyze and describe functions of illocutionary act used by Donald Trump during the press conference. This research is conducted by using descriptive method where the focus on this research is identifying illocutionary acts on the press conference. Furthermore, this research is done by using theory from Austin (1962) to analyze and classify those illocutionary acts according its function. The result of this research shows that there are 66 illocutionary acts found on the press conference and all the data are divided into five types of illocutionary acts and its function, such as: verdictives (find as a matter of fact, calculate, estimate, describe, hold as a matter of fact, and value), ecersitives (appoint, proclaim, name, order, nominate, advice, grant, choose, and bequeath), commissives (promise, declare my intention, contract, undertake, oppose, and espouse), behabitives (compliment, apologize, and thank), expositives (give a view and give a statement)._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Keywords: Pragmatic, Illocutionary Act, Donald Trump, Press Conference

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRAK          Penelitian ini membahas unsur intrinsik dan makna simbol dalam novel “Melted”. Tujuan penelitian ini mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasi dan menganalisis unsur intrinsik semiotik. Sumber data dari novel “Melted” proses penyediaan data menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik content analysis (analisis isi) berdasarkan teori Ratna. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa novel “Melted” memiliki alur gabungan berakhir dengan bahagia. Tokoh dalam novel ini terdapat dua tokoh utama dan beberapa tokoh pendukung. Terdapat beberapa latar tempat yeng terjadi dalam novel ini salah satunya adalah di sekolah Bakti Siswa, latar waktu yang terjadi yaitu pagi, siang, sore dan malam hari. Unsur-unsur tersebut saling berkaitan satu sama lain yang dihubungkan oleh tema. Tema utama pada novel ini adalah “Cinta” sedangkan tema pendukungknya adalah ”Persahabatan”. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian struktural semiotik yang diatasi pada simbol sehingga diperoleh beberapa makna simbol diantaranya seperti es yang sangat sulit untuk dicairkan disimbolkan dengan Ice Prince.Kata Kunci: Analisis Struktural Semiotik Novel “Melted”                                         ABSTRACT           This study discusses the intrinsic elements and the meaning of symbols in the novel "Melted". The purpose of this study is to identify, classify and analyze the intrinsic elements of semiotics. The source of data from the novel "Melted" is the process of providing data using descriptive analysis methods. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques (content analysis) based on Ratna's theory. The results of this study indicate that the novel "Melted" has a combined plot with a happy ending. There are two main characters in this novel and several supporting characters. There are several settings that occur in this novel, one of which is at the Bakti Siswa school, the time settings that occur are morning, afternoon, evening and night. The elements that are related to each other in the theme. The main theme in this novel is "Love" while the supporting theme is "Friendship". This research is a structural semiotic research that is addressed in symbols so that several meanings such as ice are obtained which are very difficult to symbolize with the Ice Prince.Keywords: Structural Analysis of Semiotic Novel “Melted”

Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT           This research entitled “Expression of Compliment in The Film John Wick by Derek Kolstad”. The aims of this research to identify, classify, and analyze the compliment utterances and their functions in John Wick film. This research used a descriptive method. The data were collected from conversation among characters, then classified and analyzed them according to the concept of Holmes (1986). The result shows that there are five types of compliment utterances and their function applied by the characters in their dialogues. First, ability it consists of 9 compliment utterances based on compliment abilities that function to express solidarity and admiration for abilities that are real. Second, possessions consist of 4 compliment utterances based on compliments of possession that serves to express an admiration for human property that is real deserves compliment or appreciation. Third, physical appearance consist of 3 compliment utterances the function of expression a sense of attraction will fascinate the physical appearance who intends to give real compliment without the desire to mock that can establish a smooth and positive communication relationship. Fourth, Personality consist of 13 compliment utterances based on personality compliment that serves to express a sense of solidaity, admiration, appreciation of the behavior, character, or, nature of someone who can bulid one’s self-confidence. Fifth, quality consist of 6 compliment utterances based serves to express a sense of appreciation for someone good and bad qualities. This compliment phrase also serves to appreciate the actions or qualities produced by someone who can bulid one’s enthusiasm.Key words : Compliment utterances, pragmatic analysis, Film : John Wick

Abstract

Lasut, M.Hum2                                    Dr. Garryn Ch. Ranuntu, S.Pd, M.Hum3           This research is entiteled “The References and Sense in sentences used in Song of Songs”. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the kinds of references and to analyze and describe the meanings of references and sense in sentences used in Song of Songs. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data of reference and sense have been taken in sentences from the holy bible with the new international version. The data were analyzed based on Saeed’s (2003), Hurford’s (2007), and Riemer’s (2010) theories. The result of this research shows there are two kinds of references in Song of Songs, those are constant and variabel reference. Constant reference is an expression that refers to an object only, expressions like Libanon and Damascus are sometimes described as having constant reference. Variable reference is an expression that refers to many references, expressions like I, you, she, he, we, they, us etc are said to have variable reference.
