Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Perlocutionary Act In The Film Eat, Pray, Love By Ryan Murphy”. It is an attempt to identify, classify and analyze the aspects of perlocutionary act from the utterances in the film. The effects of perlocutionary are planned and unplanned effects, while there are sixteen aspects of perlocutionary act. The data were collected from the film by identification and classification the planned and unplanned effect in the conversation. The writer read, watched and looked for the context of conversation by the characters’ expressions and body language. The collected data have been analyzed by using descriptive method to explain the aspects of perlocutionary act as revealed in the conversation between the characters in the film Eat, Pray, Love. It can be concluded that there are two effects and eleven aspects of perlocutionary act performed in the film. There are nineteen utterances for planned effect and five utterances for unplanned effect. In terms of aspects, there are eleven aspects have been found. They are: bring hearer to know or learn, persuade, impress, encourage, irritate, amuse, get hearer to do,relieve tension, distract attention, embarrass, deceive. The aspects of get hearer to do and irritate were mostly used by the characters in the film. Keywords : Pragmatics, Perlocutionary Act, Film.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Semiotics is a study about signs and everything related with it; it also related with other signs, the sender and the recipient. System of significance exist (and therefore called code) if there possibility of generating function of signs that have been agreed by the community.         The code is a set of rules or conventions (agreements) together in which signs can be combined, thus enabling the message can be communicated from one to another,  In this research, the writer takes the codes used by touring in motorcycle touring activity as the object of research. In this categogy, codes are used in motorcycle touring activity for communication. The problem in this research, forms of codes used by YVCI or Yamaha Vixion Club Indonesia as a club of motorcycle and the mean of the codes are the aim of this research. The purpose of the research are identify and analyze, in the motorcycle touring activity. The data about codes were collected by getting some information from informants, by following their touring at many places like Manado, Tondano, Tanawangko, and Tomohon. All the data were analyzed based on Fieske’s theory of codes, and the research are uses descriptive analysis. The result in this research show there are 20 codes in YVCI Manado. There are 3 classification of codes, code of dangers, codes of way, and code of formation. The meaning of codes are, how to show the bikers about the condition during the touring when they are in dangerous, how to make direction for the bikers or describe the road when they are touring and codes help them to make a communication to give information in the road. Abstract

ABSTRACT This Skripsi is entitled “Bentuk Permintaan Sopan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Wayoli : Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The problem of this research is how the forms of polite request in English and Wayoli Language  and how to use the forms. The research questions to be answered are what are the forms of polite request in English and Wayoli Language and what are the similarities and differences of both languages. In terms of methodology, the writer used descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The whole data were collected by doing library and field research. The data of both languages were analyzed based on Lado’s (1971) theory. The results of this research show that the polite request in English and Wayoli language have some similarities and differences. Both languages have polite form. Besides that, the differences in both languages are found in terms of structure, forms of sentences, distribution of verbs and personal pronouns which were used to address the hearers.   Key Words: Polite Request in English and Wayoli Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled ?Ketidakfasihan Berbicara Mahasiswa Saat Mengikuti Ujian Seminar Proposal di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya?. The objectives of this research are to identify the types of speech disfluencies and to analyze the causes of speech disfluencies of the students in Seminar Examinations in Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The writer used descriptive method in this research. In classifying and analyzing the collected data, the writer used Fox-Tree?s (1995) theory about the types of speech disfluencies and Bortfeld?s, et al. (2001) theory about the causes of speech disfluencies. The results of this research show that silent pauses and filled pauses occurred the most because of the increase of cognitive process that results in heavy planning and delays in utterances. The speech disfluencies of the students are mainly affected by variables such as cognitive load, communication medium, topic under discussion, addressee characteristics, speaker characteristics, as well as social and situational factors. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Taboo Words in English and Javanese language: A Contrastiv Analysis” . The objectives of this research are to identify, classify and analyze the types of taboo words. This research uses a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research, the first step is preparation, the data of taboo words in the English Language were taken from some books, films, and native speakers; while in Java language were taken from native speakers in Kampung Jawa Tondano. The second step the writer wrote on a piece of papers is the data about Java language, then the writer asked the meaning of taboo words to some informants as well as asked more info about taboo words. The third step is the data were analyzed  using theory of Wardhaugh (1986:230) and were contrasted to find out similarities and differences using Lado theory. The results of this research show that there are 43 taboo words in English and 30 taboo words found in Java language and they were classified into five types, those are, sex, bodily function, animal, death, and religion. It also shows that the causes of using taboo words are to express the emotion, such as anger, happy, and surprises, to talk about sex, to joke and to insult. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled The Imperative Sentences in Spy Movie by Paul Feig. The objectives of this research are to identify, to classify the imperative forms and to analyze the function of imperative sentences. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected the data of imperative sentences from the script of “Spy” Movie by Paul Feig. After collecting the data, the writer classified forms of imperative sentences by using theory from Quirk and Greenbaum (1973) then analyzed functions of imperative sentences according to the concept of Aarts and Aarts (1982). The result of this research shows that there are 250 imperative sentences found in “Spy” movie by Paul Feig. The forms of imperative sentences consist of imperative sentences which are formed of : Commands without a subject (169), Commands with a subject (32), Commands with let (26), Negative imperative (23), Persuasive imperative is not found in this research. The functions of imperative sentences which are: Command (98), Wish (50), Invitation (26), Warning (76). KEYWORDS: Imperative Sentences, Spy Movie, Syntactic Analysis.
