Abstract

Optimization of extraction parameter of oleoresin from nutmeg waste has been developed. The waste could be alternative raw material of oleoresin to replace fresh nutmeg whose price is costly. Sofar, nutmeg waste from volatile oil factory is not utilized maximally. Its utilization as product that hasadditional value could be carried out by extraction method of nutmeg oleoresin. The research aims tooptimize oleoresin extraction condition (temperature, solvent amount, and particle size) from nutmegwaste by using Response Surface Methodology. The condition is designed randomly by Box-Behnkenmethod to result in 17 experiment. The effect of extraction condition toward yield and index of refractionis determined through calculation and analysis by using refractometer, respectively. The highest value ofindex of refraction in the research is 1.4852. The optimum condition to result in the highest yield14.5525% is at temperature of 40oC, solvent amount of 200 ml, and particle size of -20+30 mesh.Optimization by using the method indicates that optimum parameter is obtained at temperature of35.86oC, solvent amount of 167.13 ml, and particle size of 10 mesh. The research result is expected toprovide information on operational effectivity in the perspective of production cost that could be utilizedby production center of nutmeg oleoresin.

Abstract

Lampung is the biggest producer cassava in Indonesia in 2010 until 2014. In 2013,Lampung produce 9.633.560 ton cassava, which mostly used as tapiocas raw material. Waste water fromtapioca industry has high organic content that can pollute environment. In fact, the organic waste can stillbe processed into other products that are more usable such as methane, nata de cassava, biosurfactant,Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC), bioethanol, and Poly Hydroxyl Alkanoat (PHA). Therefore, waste watertreatments method needed so tapioca industry can optimally worked without threatened environment. Thisarticle aim is to explore waste water treatments for tapioca industry by sustainability integrated wastewater management. So it can assist tapioca industry in environment and economic aspect. Good wastemanagement is also expected for increasing utility value and economical value of tapioca waste water.

Abstract

Extraction of protein from palm kernel cake (PKC) has been conducted via 2 step i.e. 1)protein was dissolved using akaline solution (NaOH) and 2) protein was separated using precipitationtechnique with added chloride acid (HCl). The research was conducted using Response SurfaceMethodology (RSM) for study the effects of variable interaction includes the ratio of PKC and solvent, temperature and time on extraction to obtaining the optimal of consentrate, yield and recovery. Theresults of RSM analysis shows that the time of extration and temperature had a significant influence onyield of protein while the ratio of PKC and solvent had not significant effect. The condition optimum wasreached at the ratio of PKC and solvent 1:50, temperature 40 °C and time 3 hours. At optimumconditions about 46% protein can be extracted from the PKC with 14.6% yield and protein content in theconcentrate of 49.72%. Protein concentrate containing amino acids with the largest component isglutamate 11.04%, aspartate 5.69% and leucine 5.03%.

Abstract

Implementation of dried corn noodle processing technology is required to enrich cornprocessing culture in our sociaty. However improvement of the process is still required to becommercially feasible. In general, scale-up production capacity will affect the operating conditionspecially to the material balance during the production process. Material balance used as a base infinalcial analysis dan feasibility study. This research aimed to study the effects of production capacityscale-up on material balance. In this study the weight of all material during corn noodle processingstages are recorded. The increment of corn noodle production capacities are 3, 4, 5 and 6 kg per batch. The results showed that final yields range from 63.3 to 64.5%. Production capacity scale-up is notsignificantly affected material balance during row material weighing, dough steaming,sheeting-slitting,drying and packaging. Production capacity scale-up increase the process efficiency during doughcompressing and noodle steaming stages, however decrease the mixing stage efficiency.

Abstract

Modifying zeolite with Au nanoparticles and mercaptoethanol ligand(zeolite@AuNPs@MET) has been developed as an adsorbent of heavy metal ions. The preparation ofzeolite@AuNPs@MET composite material was done in three steps. Firstly, incorporating gold precursorin to zeolite cavity. Secondly, reduction of gold nanoparticles by binahong leaf extract. Thirdly, modifyingzeolite@AuNPs with mercaptoethanol ligand. Binahong was used as bioreductor agent in the synthesis ofAu nanoparticles since it has large contents of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids which containreducing functional group. The zeolite@AuNPs@MET composite material was characterized by XRD,EDX, PSA, TEM, FTIR and UV Visible Spectrophotometer. EDX measurements showed Au content of0.88%, TEM and PSA measurement showed Au nanoparticle size in the range of 7.12 nm to 14.45 nmwith an average size distribution of 110.6 nm while gold nanoparticles immobilized in the pores ofzeolites have sizes ranging from 4.98 nm to 9.50 nm with an average size distribution of 279 nm. UVVisible absorption spectrum revealed a new formed peak at 537 nm, indicating formation of AuNPs. The characteristic peaks (at 526 nm and 532 nm) were also found in the UV-Vis absorption spectrum ofAuNPs immobilized in the zeolite pores and AuNPs in the zeolite@AuNPs@MET composite, respectively.FTIR measurements of mercaptoethanol ligand showed the presence of a peak at 2550 cm-1 regionindicating SH functional groups, which disappeared after modification of zeolite@Au with MET ligand, indicated the –SH bond was broken and the remained –S was attached to AuNPs. All of thecharacterization revealed the success of the composite material preparation, which is an interestingmaterial expected to have highly potential as a heavy metal ion adsorbent.

Abstract

This study aims to acquire and apply new techniques patchouli oil refining the people andassess the quality of patchouli oil produced. In this study, patchouli leaf materials used were obtainedfrom farmers Aceh Jaya. Extraction using Rhizopus oryzae 1% of the weight of the material, water ratioof 1: 5. The yield of raw materials dried leaves is 3.3%. The yield of fresh leaves as raw material is 2.1%.The yield on the addition of Rhizopus oryzae is 1.5%. Quality testing is done based on the qualityrequirements of patchouli oil (SNI 06-2385-2006). Pachouli levels of alcohol in the extraction of driedleaves at 25.43%, the extraction of fresh leaves at 55.01% and extraction in addition Rhizopus oryzae at43.89%. The refractive index obtained in the extraction of dried leaves is 1.50642, 1.51071 for theextraction of fresh leaves and extraction in addition Rhizopus oryzae obtained by 1.51281. Gravity of theextraction of dried leaves obtained at 0.955, extraction of fresh leaf extract at 0.961 and in additionRhizopus oryzae at 0.966.
