Abstract

This research aimed to describe the profile of the visualizer and verbalizer students to think analytically in solving mathematical problems. The subjects were 3 visualizer students and 3 verbalizer students obtained by VVQ questionnaire. The research data are the form of analytical thinking tests and interviews were then analyzed based on the indicators of analytical thinking in solving mathematical problems based on the stage Polya. The results obtained by the visualizer students mention known and asked by picture, modelize problem by picture, use any different strategies, and conclude by picture. In other hand, verbalizer students mention known and asked by words, modelize problem by word (symbol or alphabet), use same strategy, and conclude by words. In the final result, there is no difference ability between the visualizer and verbalizer students' cognitive style to think analytically in solving the problem because both are quite good.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' learning trajectory to solving math problems based on student’s ability. The subject is 4th-gradestudents of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) K.H. Mas Mansyur Surabaya. The results obtained by learning trajectory are (1) high ability students, expressing the understanding of the problem orally and writing, plan two solutions process, choose to use multiples and sum between departure time and travel time, the subject re-examine every step in solving the problem. (2) medium ability students, expressing an understanding of the problem orally, planning a solution and implementing it until finding a solution, in re-examining the subject using factoring; and (3) low-ability students, expressing an understanding of the problem orally, planning a solution to finding a solution, then simply re-examining the steps taken in solving the problem.

Abstract

This study aims to explain about students’ activities, mathematical communication skills, students’ achievement and students' responses toward the implementation of outdoor learning using clinometers through utilization of schoolyard as a learning resource on the topic of trigonometry in SMA Global Islamic Boarding School (GIBS). The method employed in this study is quasi-experimental with one shot case study. The subject of this study includes 25 female students who are in 10 grade of natural science class. The data are collected through observation, written tests, and questionnaire. Data gained are analyzed using descriptive statistic. The result indicates that: 48% of students’ activities are in the category of active and very active; the average improvement of student’s mathematical communication skills is in the high category; there are 80% of students’ achievements passed the minimum mastery criteria; the students’ responses are satisfied with the learning experience through the implementation of outdoor learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe about metacognitive process of student in geometry problem posing based cognitive style Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI). The subjects were four students of grade X. The result showed that metacognitive process of subjects FD and FI first category in posing geometry problem, doing activity of planning, monitoring and evaluating process and the result thinking about every step of problem posing. Metacognitive process of subject FD of second category in posing geometry problem, doing activity of planning, monitoring, and evaluating process and the result thinking about step understanding information, arranging the planning of problem posing and formulating problem. Furthermore, metacognitive process of subject FI second category in posing geometry problem, doing of planning activity, monitoring and evaluating process and the result thinking about step understanding information, arranging the planning of problem posing and controlling back of suitability problem made with first information

Abstract

This research aims to explain the ability of problem-solving between reflective cognitive and impulsive cognitive students. The subject of this research is students of class VII C SMP Al-Hikmah Surabaya. Subject chose based on a test of cognitive style, one student of reflective cognitive style and one student of impulsive cognitive style. The instrument uses a test of the MFF (Matching Familiar Figures) and tests the ability to problem-solving of ratio. The subject of reflective cognitive style can retell the problems that exist in the problem, said, write down the steps used in the settlement of a matter, carry out all settlement plan as a whole and coherent, and provide settlement solutions at the end of time. The subject of impulsive cognitive style, the average can tell, mention, write on some matter, of course, does not implement the settlement plan, not coherent, and settlement in a hurry.

Abstract

This study is to correct mathematical learning by didactic design based on learning obstacles and learning trajectory. This is a qualitative study through Didactical Design Research (DDR) by three analytical phase, i.e. 1) didactical situation analysis before learning presented as didactical design hypothesis including ADP; 2) metapedadidactical analysis which analyzes teacher’s ability such as unity, flexibility, and coherency in learning; 3) retrospective analysis which is the correlated analysis between the result of didactical situation hypothesis analysis and metapedadidactical analysis. The result of problem analysis related to integer arithmetic operation, a concept of function, and two triangle similarity concept, implementation of early didactical design could predict probable mistakes done by students and even if the mistakes still there, it was decreased compared to early learning obstacle test. These conditions were reinforced after learning with mathematics score school succeed standard 75% was done.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to measure mathematical literacy skills of a student after mathematics learning processes using naive geometry method on the quadratic equation. This research is using quantitative methods. This research was implemented at SMP Ulul Albab. The mathematical literacy skills obtained from observation and mathematics literacy tests which refer to the mathematics literacy indicator. The tests were given after a teaching and learning process using naive geometry while observation was done during the learning process. The results show that 22.73% students have high mathematical literacy skill, 68.18% students have intermediate mathematical literacy, and 9.09% students who have low math skills literacy.
