Animal Production : Indonesian Journal of Animal Production
Animal Production is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Animal Science, Jenderal Soedirman University in association with the Animal Scientist Society of Indonesia. The journal was established in 1999 and available online since May 4, 2011. Animal Production was initially published twice a year, then three times a year starting in 2005. The journal coverage focused on small scale livestock farming and technologies which includes the recent science development in animal production, including all aspects of nutrition, breeding, reproduction, post-harvest processing and socio-economics. All articles are available online. Full text available in pdf format and can be downloaded for free. Starting Vol 22 No 1 the papers have been and will be published in our new website (http://animalproduction.id), as the continuation of our previous but still active website (http://animalproduction.net).

Abstract

This research was purposed to study pig’s farmer’s profile in Banyumas Regency. The research was carried out since December 1999 to May 2000. It was located at Banyumas Regency.  The method applied was survey with intensive observation, involved 51 respondents (54.26  percent of total pig farmers in Banyumas Regency), consist of 7.80 percent women and 92.20 percent men. The result showed that pig’s farmer were in productive age  (44 years) with low formal education level (Sekolah Dasar). Most of all are moeslems (90,16 percent) and had small family size (4-5 members). They have other income source and they rear pigs to generate income or to use soybean cake’s waste (ampas tahu). Experience in the farming was quite long (more than 10 years) and skill come from imitating their neighbours, friends of other wise of autodidact. Abstract

The Objectives of this research was to know income and efficiency level of local chicken entreprise. Beside that, to know potency of local chicken enterprise developing in DAS Serayu, Banyumas and know factors can effect level of that income and efficiency. Methode that used at this research is survey method to farmer families. Take of research data by random sampling.The data is analysed by multiple regression analysis. The results of this research showed that income level of local chicken entreprise at DAS Serayu is Rp 277.375,00 / year and economi efficiency 2.80 , that means the farmers get return Rp 2.80 for every one unit cost addition. The age of farmers and total of chicken possession effect at efficiency of  local chicken entreprise. Potency of local chicken developing very big if showed from power of area and human resources. Very important to increase entreprise capital and increase knowledge for farmer. Abstract

Penelitian dengan judul “Pengaruh Pembatasan  Pakan dan Exercise terhadap Pertumbuhan Domba Merino” dilakukan untuk mempelajari perubahan bobot badan dan komposisi tubuh selama periode pembatasan pakan dan kerja (exercise) yang kemudian diikuti oleh pemberian pakan secara adlibitum dan berhenti bekerja.penelitian ini terdiri dari dua periode.Pada periode pertama, 1,5 ekor Domba Merino kastrasi umur 4-5 bulan dibagi menjadi tiga perlakuan ,yaitu pembatasan pakan dan exercise selama 2,50 jam (perlakuan I), pembatasan pakan tanpa Exercise (perlakuan II), serta pemberian pakan secara ad libitum tanpa Exercise (perlakuan III), yang masing-masing perlakuan diulang lima kali. Pada periode kedua ,semua domba diberi pakan ad libitum tanpa exercise. Hasil penelitian menunjukankan bahwa pada akhir penelitian periode pertama ,domba dalam perlakuan satu I dan perlakuan II mengalami penurunan bobot badan sebesar 28 dan 27 persen dari bobot badan awal. Selama periode kedua, domba dalam perlakuan I dan perlakuan II tumbuh lebih cepat dari pada domba perlakuan III. Pada akhir periode pertama, domba dalam perlakuan I kehilangan lemak lebih banyak dari pada perlakuan II.Selama periode ke dua ,penimbunan protein pada perlakuan I dan II lebih cepat dibanding  perlakuan III. Domba pada perlakuan III mengalami penimbunan lemak lebih banyak dari pada perlakuan I dan II. Domba pada perlakuan I dan II selama periode ke dua mempunyai kemampuan makan lebih tinggi per kilogram bobot badan metabolis dibanding domba pada perlakuan III. Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of eggs shape index on embryo mortalities, unhatched egg and day old duck abnormalities of selected and control Tegal duck. A total of 1428 fertile eggs obtained from a selected duck group and a control group were divided in to 3 group according to their eggs shape index (ESI), i.e. small (ESI ,79 percent), medium ( ESI ,82 percent ) and large (ESI ,85 percent ). The ESI was measured as a ratio of wide and length of eggs and percentage. Three batches of incubation with 7 day interval were carried out as replicates. Parameter measured were embryo mortalities, number of unhatched eggs and number of abnormal day old duck. Candling of eggs were performed at 6, 14 and days of incubation and mortalities of embryo were detected by loup. Results of the experiment showed that lowest embryos mortalities was occurred on medium eggs (24 percent) and significantly ( p< 0,05 ) affected by eggs size. Abnormal DOD from medium eggs was significantly (p ,0,05 ) lower (13 percent ) than the small (23 percent ) and large (21 percent ) eggs. Similar trends on eggs from selected duck and control ducks. This may be due to short term of selection program and young age of the female duck (24 weeks ). These results conclude that medium eggs (ESI ,82 percent) were the best size for hatching eggs. Abstract

The review of estrous synchronization was biologically, hormonally, and laserly to studied in the sheep and goat. The observed parameters of the synchronization of estrous in sheep and goat were the onset and the length of estrous. The result of this research shows that the hormonal synchronization of estrous results in the presence of estrous in 30-42 hours after  the withdrawal of the sponges; while in goat it is in the average of  35.13±9.9 hours. Than the length of estrous in sheep was 30-48 hours and in goat the average was 36.00±14.96 hours. The synchronization of estrous by Laserpuncture results in the presence of estrous in goat 43.94-59.75 hours after the given laser beam (Animal Production 2(1): 1-8.Key Words: the synchronization of estrous, sheep, goat.

Abstract

One hundred and eighty castrated male of Brahman Cross cattle ,2 to 2.50 years old with initial body weight of 341.50± 18.20 kg, were used in this research to study the effect of duration period of fattening on average daily gain and fatty acids composition of meat. They were grouped randomly into three : 2 months ( group A),3 months (group B) and 4 months ( group C) of fattening of each group consisted of three pens of 20 heads respectively. The diet was composed of 15 percent of king grass ,80 percent of concentrate and 5 percent of waste product of fermented beer and given ad libitum as total mixed ration. Feed intake was controlled every day, were as  weighting was done monthly. Meat samples for analyses of fatty acids composition and were taken from Longisimus dorsi and collected from 6 cattle as a replication for each treatment. All data collected were analysed by analysis of variance using completely Randomized Design (CRD). Treatment were compared using Least Significant Difference (LSD).ADG in group C (0,75 kg ) was significantly higher (P < 0,05) than in group A (0,08 kg ) and B (0,82 kg ) and three was not difference between A and B . Meat fat content and percentage of saturated fatty acids were significantly higher (P< 0,05 ) in group C (12.53 percent ; 43.16 percent ) than in group A (5.31 percent ; 38.43 percent ) and in group B (5,27 percent ; 38.05 percent ). On the contrary, the percentage of unsaturated fatty acids was significantly (P < 0,05) lower (C: 56.76 percent ) than other group ( A : 61.70 percent and B : 61.95 percent). Abstract

The objective of research was to know the correlation between floor space and sanitation of cage with mastitis disease occurance on the dairy cattle. Sixtiy infected mastitis disease dairy cows were used in the research in the Banyumas regency. Survey was applied in this experiment and Linier Multiple Regression was used. The result showed that there were correlations between floor space  and sanitation of cage with mastitis which follow the regression line Yi = 15,355 + 1,087 X1 – 0,249 X2 (Animal Production 2(1): 9-12Key Words: mastitis, floor space, and sanitation
