Abstract

The number of autism sufferers worldwide is increasing, but not yet followed by optimal handling. The cost of autism therapy is unaffordable by the general public because of the need for a specific and expensive container. Need to improve the quality of handling, especially in space for activities that contribute to the process of autism therapy. In this study, an evaluation of the autism school in Surakarta and surrounding areas and made recommendations for solutions to the existing problems. The method used is qualitative rationalistic with post-occupancy indicative evaluation. Data obtained from field observation of research object, interview with related parties, and literature study. The data obtained is processed by emphasizing the meaning of empiri, understanding and intellectual ability to argue logically with supported empirical data and relevant theory. From the results of these evaluations, prepared spatial planning recommendations based on design criteria that are positively oriented towards increasing autism independence. From the results of the study known that the existing space can be used quite well, although technically inadequate, need improvement in order to function more optimally. The results of this study are expected to be used as a reference for autism school planning in the future.

Abstract

The wave of migration to Indonesia cause multiculturalism in their communities. Acculturation happened when the imigrant’s culture meet and blend with the native’s culture. Hadhrami immigrants came and stayed in Indonesia, bringing their original culture from Yaman.  Islam as their religion became the important part of their life and effecting the culture, wherever they live. Adapting to the native culture and local condition was needed when they chose to settle in Indonesia. Dutch colonization at that time effected Indonesian society’s way of life, so are the immigrants. Socio-cultural dynamics will influence and expressed by architecture form. The objective of this study was to identify acculturation between Arab, Islam, Indonesia, and Dutch culture on architecture of Arab’s ancient houses in Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon.  Research method used in this study is qualitative-explorative and using descriptive as analysis method. Acculturation between Arab, Islam, Indonesia, and Dutch cultures on the Arab’s ancient houses in Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon, found through the existence of Arab vernacular architecture, islamic concept architecture, tropical-humid architecture, and Dutch colonial architecture on the design program, interior elements, and exterior elements.

This article will then focus on the designing of the Community Centre by using co-working space for inducing creative and collaborative activities in Purwokerto. Some key aspects of co-working space to be applied in the design are the services, spatial layout and ambience of space.

Abstract

Lighting affects how people feel, react, and function in various settings, therefore lighting design strategy for worship room at churches should be aimed not only at fulfil the standard visual performance but should also be set as to enrich the room’s perception i.e. as the God’s holy place as well as a place for contemplation. Lighting problems found at the worship room of GPIB Immanuel Malang are not merely on the inappropriateness of lighting level and distributions, but also on the absence of the church’ nuance as a place for contemplation. This paper is intended to report a proposed schematic lighting design for improving the situation. Using visual hierarchical approach, the lighting design aspects such as intensity, colour rendering, type, direction and arrangement of luminaires are determined and integrated. The proposed lighting design strategy is expected to be able to solve luminous problems and create the designated room’s nuance/perceptions.
