Abstract

Lighting affects how people feel, react, and function in various settings, therefore lighting design strategy for worship room at churches should be aimed not only at fulfil the standard visual performance but should also be set as to enrich the room’s perception i.e. as the God’s holy place as well as a place for contemplation. Lighting problems found at the worship room of GPIB Immanuel Malang are not merely on the inappropriateness of lighting level and distributions, but also on the absence of the church’ nuance as a place for contemplation. This paper is intended to report a proposed schematic lighting design for improving the situation. Using visual hierarchical approach, the lighting design aspects such as intensity, colour rendering, type, direction and arrangement of luminaires are determined and integrated. The proposed lighting design strategy is expected to be able to solve luminous problems and create the designated room’s nuance/perceptions.

Abstract

A humid tropical climate characterized by high temperatures, relative humidity and solar radiation results in uncomfortable environmental conditions. Discomfort will be worse if the building is in a dense urban area. Densely building masses often weaken the local wind speed which is necessary for evaporative cooling process in tropical climate. In addition, the narrow distance between buildings can reduce access to daylight. Both of these environmental problems were experienced by SDIT Al Uswah Surabaya, which building is located in a densely populated neighbourhood. Along with the development program of educational facilities and infrastructure at the school, improving environmental conditions with passive concept is maintained and prioritized. Embodiment of the environment with the Selective Environment approach is used in this activity. The results of this activity will be in the form of design proposals for improving ventilation and lighting in classrooms. The limitation of expanding openings becomes an obstacle in fulfilling the natural ventilation and lighting requirements. In addition, the design of a three-storey building with a single loaded corridor requires special consideration for the design of sun shading that is safe for elementary school-age children, but still supports passive lighting and ventilation.

Abstract

Pohuwato Timur Village is included in several slum areas in Pohuwato District. Most of the residents' houses in this area have low building quality, high building density, narrow road space, poor condition of drainage channels, and accumulation and pollution of river waste. The society also has unhealthy behavior by disposing their solid waste in the river and by using the embankment as the toilet. This research aims at investigating the condition of slums and the factors that influence the creation of slums. The results of the identification and analysis are used as guidelines in making directions for handling regional structuring. Identification of slum conditions is carried out on five indicators. The research method applies a quantitative approach and multiple linear regression analysis. Data collection techniques are questionnaires and observations. The identification results show that in general, it is a medium slum area. The results of the analysis show that residential buildings, environmental roads, drainage channels, wastewater disposal, and solid waste management simultaneously affect the slum conditions of the area, while partially only drainage and waste channels affect the slum conditions of the area. The direction of the arrangement is carried out with a pattern of handling resettlement with the principle of On-site Reblocking arrangement, as well as repair and arrangement of facilities and infrastructure of drainage and waste channels.

Abstract

Development and management are two factors that influence the existence of a tourist area. Taman Harmoni, located in the Bukit Asah area of Bugbug Village, Karangasem is an area that has been under development and management by the Bugbug Traditional Village Tourism Development Agency (BP2DAB) since 2016. The development carried out by BP2DAB is considered successful in attracting visitors to always come back. Bugbug Village realizes that the potential of nature and culture is a priceless investment and if not managed properly it will harm the lives of future generations. Not only has a negative impact on economic factors, this negligence also causes degradation of natural environmental factors and socio-cultural factors. Tri Hita Karana is one of the local wisdom that teaches about the three causes of happiness or harmony.  BP2DAB makes Tri Hita Karana a concept in managing the Taman Harmoni tourist area. Elements of Tri Hita Karana will be implemented in each of the development factors carried out. The purpose of this paper is to determine the extent to which the implementation of the Tri Hita Karana concept in the management of the Taman Harmoni Bukit Asah tourism object, Bugbug Karangasem. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through direct observation, interviews, and literature study. The result of this paper is a form of implementation of the elements of Parahyangan, Pawongan and Palemahan in the management of the Taman Harmoni at Bukit Asah Bugbug, Karangasem.

Abstract

One of the most significant factors in achieving a positive image of the city is the selection of image-forming elements. This element's function, location, form, magnitude, uniqueness, and character can all be seen. Martapura is a city that is now undergoing development in order to improve its image. A communal mental map based on Kevin Lynch's idea was employed in this investigation. The goal of this study is to identify the aspects that go into forming the picture of Martapura, which is formed by people's perceptions, experiences, imaginations, and feelings. A qualitative research methodology was applied in this study. This investigation was carried out as a means of discovery. Respondents must freely share their understanding of the things that will reflect the physical elements that make up Martapura's city center in order to understand the physical elements that make up the city center. The physical elements that build the image of Martapura's city center are generated through the function or workings of the things that make up the physical elements of Martapura's city center, according to the findings of the investigation. Physical items such as Tugu Tani, Martapura Market, Merdeka Farmers Park, Merdeka Street, Parai Hotel, Tebat Sari Stadium, and Bank Sumsel Babel are used to organize the physical aspects that make up the image of Martapura City.

Abstract

Architecture responds to the Pandemic with a unified and massive form, while the Covid-19 demands buildings that are completely void. This research was conducted at the healthcare facility building at Khadijah Hospital in Makassar which is expected to be a representative building for mapping the transmission of Covid-19 in public facilities. This study aims to examine adaptation strategies from the architectural realm in healthcare facilities combined with studies on COVID-19 mitigation and Muhammadiyah mediation in applying Islamic concepts. This research is descriptive exploratory to the object of research. The data collection method was obtained from the results of observations, interviews, and literature studies which were then analyzed using synchronic reading and diachronic reading methods, aligning all available information so that conclusions were obtained from all references. This study results that adaptation is more likely to regulate circulation, limit the number of people, and reduce furniture. Providing additional rooms such as green open spaces, and special cabin for patients and visitors are not fully accommodated because health care facility considers the cost and construction time. Another result is that the form of architectural adaptation raises the potential for design based on natural interventions such as the healing environment approach and biophilic design.

Abstract

Traditional architecture in Doka called Sa’o (traditional house) has a unique physical identity in the form of structure and construction. Even though it looks simple, the structure of the foundation, the body, and the roof is able to provide strength and stability to the building. If we are looking back to see how to build a traditional house in the past, the trial and error strategy becomes a method of logical thinking by understanding the principles of building structures. For this reason, this study aims to determine the logical thinking of structural principles by identifying all steps of construction and every structural element obtained through field observations. The results show that the form of structure and construction steps at the traditional house (Sa’o) has considered the principle of load distribution and the response to the styles that influence it. That’s why this research became more interesting as a knowledge to understand the logic of thinking of those people while creating an architectural concept.

Abstract

The development of the times indirectly affects human needs which have an impact on all aspects of human life, psychology, lifestyle to architecture.  There are several rules of Traditional Balinese Architecture that contrast or are not suitable when combined with modern architecture that is in demand by today's society. However, if ecotourism buildings in Bali follow the architectural trend in the world, it will violate the Bali Regional Regulation and Bali will lose its architectural identity. There is a gap between traditional Balinese architecture that must be applied with modern architecture which is the current trend. Biophilic Architecture is building's connection to the environment will affect the health of the community both physically and psychologically. In general, the Biophilic approach and Traditional Balinese Architecture are both environmentally based. Therefore, Biophilic Architecture can be a bridge between Traditional and Modern Architecture. Using comparative quantitative research methods with biophilic as an indicator of assessing traditional Balinese architecture, the results of modern architecture guidelines that have environmental-based traditional rules will be obtained. This research is expected to be a guide or reference in designing ecotourism buildings that are modern but still strong in their traditional Balinese identity.
