Abstract

Forest cover changes were influenced by many factors, some of which were biophysical characteristics, socio-economic conditions, and community cultural. The behavior of forest cover changes in each of Indonesia's regions varied, either its rate or its driving factors. The establishment of village typologies to categorize village administrative areas becomes important to see the driving factors that trigger forest change in each typology. The objective of this study was to develop the village typology and to identify the driving forces of forest cover change in each village in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. The development of village typology was done by applying the clustering approach with standardized euclidean distances. Based on the proportion of forest in 2015, the study found that there are two village typologies within the study area with 81% OA. The study also recognized that the most significant driving forces of forest cover change in T1 were the distance from rivers (X2) and settlements (X3), whereas in T2 were the distance from roads (X1) and the edge of forest in 2015 (X9). The study concludes that the proximity from the center of the human activities holds a significant influence on the behavior of forest cover changes.

Abstract

Birds are an animal that has an important role in the process of forest succession, plays a role in spreading seeds, helping pollination, and balancing ecosystems. Deforestation of forest areas in Riau has a high rate, this can be seen from the change in the function of forests into agricultural and plantation land. The Sultan Syarif Hasyim Forest Park (TAHURA) is a conservation area that has quite alarming conditions, of the forest area of 6,172 hectares, there are only 2,000 hectares left forested, while the rest have acacia forest cover, shrubs, oil palm plantations, rubber plantations . The assessment of bird diversity needs to be carried out in the Sultan Syarif Hasyim Tahura given the high level of habitat destruction. Birds in TAHURA Sultan Syarif Hasyim have 71 species of birds from 34 families and 13 orders, there are 5 nocturnal birds. The diversity index (H) ranges from 3.19 - 3.92, the evenness index type (E) ranges from 0.88 - 0.92 and the species richness index (R) ranges from 2.14 - 4.28.

Abstract

This research was conducted in the presumptuous university forest faculty laboratory yellow Pekanbaru. This research was conducted for 6 months, namely from July -December 2018. This study aims to measure the yield and characteristics eucalyptus oil at various leaf sizes consisting of specific gravity, refractive index, solubility in 70% alcohol, and cineol content. Analyze effect size eucalyptus leaves to the characteristics of eucalyptus oil. This research is using a completely randomized design (CRD). This research is used to obtain provide information and input regarding the characteristics of eucalyptus oil and yield at different leaf sizes. Results from research on oil characteristics Eucalyptus at various leaf sizes consists of, whole eucalyptus leaves obtained yield 0.59%, moisture content 1.074%, specific gravity 0.953, refractive index 1.467, solubility in 70% 1: 2 alcohol, the cineol content is 71.67%. Two cut leaves are obtained yield 0.49%, moisture content 0.842%, specific gravity 0.921, refractive index 1.465, solubility in 70% alcohol 1: 3, cineol content 63.33. Cut eucalyptus oil leaves three obtained yield 0.39, water content 0.908, specific gravity 0.924, inex bias 1.465, solubility in 70% alcohol 1: 4, cineol content 68.33%. Treatment of leaf size significant effect on yield, solubility in 70% alcohol and not significant effect on specific gravity, refractive index, and cineol content.

Abstract

Kelor is a plant species that has many benefits because of its nutritional content. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Moringa as a miracle plant, because it has saved many lives, especially children in many poor countries. Kelor has the opportunity to be developed in Sumatra, especially Riau as an alternative food crop, source of some important nutrients such as vitamins, proteins and anti-oxidants. Kelor from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is known to have the best quality in Indonesia. Its development in Riau requires preliminary research related to the growth of seedlings in several growing medium that have characteristics similar to those in Riau. This study uses a completely randomized design with treatment of growing medium in the form of three treatments, namely black soil, podsolic soil and peat soil mixture. The analysis was carried out descriptively and inference to the parameters of the percentage of life and height of Moringa seedlings. The results showed that seedling growing medium from top soil + fuel husk were best for Moringa seedling growth. Seedling growing media from top soil sub soil or from top soil alone can be the best alternative afterwards.
